Possible career change

Please keep me in your thoughts. I just had a preliminary interview for a new position within my company. This position is an 18 month training program, then after the program is complete, I would be come a service department supervisor. During the 18 month program, my salary will increase by roughly 11k per year more than I currently make. After I get done with the program, I become a supervisor and my salary increases by about 30k per year more than I am currently making. This would be a life changer for our single income family, and it would mean my wife would not be so stressed about raising our child and not having an income of her own. There will be some serious sacrifices I will have to make, but in the end, I feel it is what is best for our growing family. Thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

Hey Scott you what they say, Fortune favors the bold" Go for it I'm sure you will succeed, just don't forget us when you get to be the President of the company.

I'll never forget you guys! :)

Are you going away some where for training?

Good luck with what ever course you pursue. Just don't forget to stop and smell the roses now and again regardless of where you end up. It's too easy to get ground up by corporate America and your life becomes miserable always chasing the carrot on the end of the stick.

Well I will have to go to corporate headquarters for roughly a week of training, but that won't be for a while. As far as stopping to smell the roses, that is something I have problems doing now, as I'm always pretty focused on supporting the family, since my wife is now a stay at home mom.

Thanks. Today marks a week since my interview and I haven't heard anything yet, but I was told it would be at least a week and a half from my interview date until I'd hear something.

Everyone whines about how hard it is to get a job. As a manager, you'd be suprised at how hard it is to find a good candiate. Finding someone who will show up, finsh a project, bascially just do their job, is hard to find. I'm sure if you are doing a good job, they will promote you. Good luck!

edit: it's in their interest to promote a known asset

I am a manager who hires currently, and I know good candidates are hard to find. I'd like to think I'm a good candidate, bit it's still nerve racking to go through the process.

Just bumping this. This week is the week I am expecting to hear something about this position. I have heard some rumors, but until I hear it from the horses mouth, I won't be counting my chickens before they hatch..

Was that enough cliché phrases in one post?

Scott, You are a good man. I would put you on my team any day. The main reason is that you are a true person with lots to offer for others. I could tell this the day I met you. With that in mind, it takes money, time, and other sacrifices to succeed. You deserve this and your heart says you need to do it for the betterment of your family. Just remember that your time at work means less time with your family. It is not always worth it. I lose a lot of time with my family, but we all live comfortably. I live for the future instead of the moment. I may have my priorities mixed up, but I have a healthy happy family. I wish the same for you.

Jeremy,

Thank you sir for the kind words! I know you sacrifice for the future well being of your family. I am so glad to call you a friend, and I'm glad we met out at DRV. I can't wait until we can hang out, and camp again!

Another update.. apparently BOTH of the guys making decisions on this position had to make a last minute trip to one of our locations in Hawaii, so I am still waiting to hear something, and will hopefully hear something next week now. I just have to remember that just because hearing something is important to me, it doesn't necessarily mean it's as important to them. The big wigs have a lot going on... keep me in your thoughts!!

Hahahaha!!!! Last minute trip to Hawaii... yeah, that's called vacation!!!! LOL

Best of luck and hope you get it.

I'd venture that no news is good news, I mean nobody else is crowing about being promoted to the position right?

Yes. No one has said anything, and I have had good words put in by some influential people, regarding me as a good candidate.. I'm just waiting now....
