Ah - I see where you're going with that... see man, the obvious, ain't always obvious! Know where I could find some type of spring loaded pin that would click into place as I pulled it out (then I'd have to push it in to slide further out)?

More specifically, the weld in pins (https://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-quick-release-pins/=1cda33a) could be welded to a 90° bracket on the body, and drill a set of holes at varying spots, and you're done.
