Off on a new Adventure...

Scott B.

Adventurist
Next week, I start on the next phase of my career journey. Now, you will actually be able to call me a "rocket scientist".

I will be working for Cepeda Systems, a NASA contractor. As a software developer, I will be working on / building projects for the International Space Station and the journey to Mars.

The position is in Huntsville, so I will be moving back to Alabama. Yes, I grew up there during the hey day of the Space Program. I still can't believe I am going back, and will actually contribute to the effort.

The transition will be interesting, as Laura (and her business partner) are planning to consolidate and relocate as well. In the meantime, I will probable spend some quality time in the teardrop. But hey, it's all part of the adventure!

Wow! I'm sure Huntsville has changed since I spent any time there (as has Atlanta). You've always had some "rocket scientist" qualities in my mind. Good luck with the transition.

Congrats! That’s HUGE!

I know that I for one am very excited about sending Astronauts to Mars. It’s high time we as a nation and as a species got back into space exploration. Nothing beats boots on the ground - on another planet!

Yes, it has changed since I was last there. Now, they have a Cabela's! ;)

I hesitate to ask what "rocket scientist" qualities you think I have...

I look at it this way - I am 3 hours closer for next year's DE trip!

Thank you.

Yes, we need to get back into space exploration and moving forward as a nation. Build, grow, learn instead of blame and whine.

I was thinking of Hillary, Nancy Pelosi, and Elizabeth Warren as the first All-Female crew in NASA history. How could they turn that down? And maybe we could get Chelsea to go as a Junior Space Cadet . . .

Or hood ornament?

Congrats on the career progression Scott! Huntsville is a very cool little place. I've been trying to get my family over to the space center there for the last couple years but we haven't made it yet. I remember all those dreams of Space Camp as a kid...

That's beyond rad. Stoked for you. What an immensely cool thing to work on. While I no longer enjoy writing code, I can definitely appreciate what you will be working on.

My youngest wants to work for NASA as an engineer. Her goal is to be the first woman to Saturn. It's difficult for me to get my head back into that mindset but I'm doing everything I can to help her along that path. Wait till I tell her I "know" someone working on projects for the ISS. The past few weeks, we've been getting a good view of it every morning. She's been waking up early just to see it for a few minutes.

Congrats on the new gig!

So cool! Congrats on the upgrade. I hope you can keep us updated on what you are working on as you move forward.

pfft... talk to me when you become a "rocket surgeon". :D Good luck!

Hmmm... I am good at taking things apart.

In fact, I can think of several politicians who should be "volunteered" for a Mars Mission!

I agree - Congratulations!

Thank you. Do we really want to pollute Mars with our POS politicians?

Space Camp did not exist when I was living there :( But I visited the Space Center every chance I had. They do have camp for adults, you know...

I get burned out on writing code sometimes, too. I am thinking this position will re-energize me!

Thank you. I will keep everyone updated. I hope to post lots of pictures, too.

Congrats Scott! What a great opportunity and I hope it is a fulfilling as it sounds!

I meant it in the most complimentary way possible. Nicely done V8 in a Ranger (which FoMoCo couldn't handle); the Scott B Special from Little Guy and then modified very nicely; and the fixes to what Toyota sells as a small truck. Good engineering and execution.
