Here's a teaser - we just got back after driving almost 24 hours straight... Long story but EPIC trip. More after I sleep and have a chance to sort through photos.

We had a few technical difficulties post-expo and are now back online. I'll close out this thread with a few expo pics and such and we'll start another thread for our Utah adventure :D

Northern AZ, so many cool places to see!

DSC_0048.jpg

Trump's Tacoma - one of the nicest around.
DSC_0049.jpg

Must resist... on to Flag!
DSC_0052.jpg

Northern Arizona is a whole different world than the southern half of the state - green everywhere.
DSC_0074.jpg

Lake Mary, more water than 2013
DSC_0085.jpg

Fire danger all around... no campfires please!
DSC_0112.jpg

Arriving at Overland Expo... the first shiny thing to catch my eye was this nicely restored 60 Series Cruiser with diesel conversion by AT
DSC_0132.jpg

And fully outfittted!
DSC_0134.jpg

Lou from Restop's new Tacoma with Demello rear setup - ready for adventure.
DSC_0148.jpg

The new 2014 Tacoma bumper from Demello, available in aluminum too
DSC_0149.jpg

Demello gave this some nice detail at the grill/headlight interface

Snow Peak central and the calm before the storm

Banners mounted and wind-proofed - the wind off of the lake bed is no joke here

And my "walking around pics" once the show had started in earnest the next day. There is NO WAY I could accurately describe everything I saw - this show is MASSIVE and the number and variety of rigs, camps, styles, widgets and people boggles the mind. Folks come from all over the globe to the expo now, it's really grown.

Tepui Tent central
DSC_0001.jpg

Nice Vulture 4Runner
DSC_0002.jpg

Canvass is still cool
DSC_0005.jpg

Gear and vendors everywhere!
DSC_0007.jpg

Frontrunner Outfitters came with a killer spread of rigs, toys and new gear
DSC_0011.jpg

The Frontrunner JK is ready to play
DSC_0012.jpg

More Frontrunner campsite goodies
DSC_0014.jpg

The Frontrunner Tacoma - there were a LOT of Tacomas this year in every flavor
DSC_0016.jpg

James Baroud was there for the first time and are now sold in North America - these tents are THE BEST variant of this style I've seen. They took the Maggiolina concept a step further IMHO. If I was in the market for a RTT, this would be it. Check them out
DSC_0020.jpg

Carbon fiber version... light as a feather
DSC_0023.jpg

Designed to carry a James Baroud gear/clothes carrier on top.
DSC_0024.jpg

Top shelf materials and workmanship to include OEM LED lighting and roof ventilation. Nice.
DSC_0026.jpg

AllPro Offroad was busy all weekend with "Brownie" feeling the love. The new aluminum APEX bumper wins the "best looking" bumper award fro 2nd gen Tacomas IMHO.
DSC_0028.jpg

AllPro's "Brownie" and APEX bumper closeup - such a sweet machine!
DSC_0035.jpg

Our own Mitch and Beau from Living Overland
DSC_0031.jpg

Trailers everywhere this year - these ones from Moby1 were niiice....
DSC_0036.jpg

Kayaks? No problem.
DSC_0037.jpg

The smaller version from Moby1, very cool
DSC_0038.jpg

Cam and Co from Mojoe Outfitters and their killer griddle setups
DSC_0040.jpg

DSC_0042.jpg

The MFES (modular front end system) bumper from Pronghorn. Made in USA, all aluminum and very well designed.
DSC_0046.jpg

The new Tacoma version of the MFES from Pronghorn. Still under development, but the low winch mount, killer recover points and integral 1/4 inch aluminum skid are very promising.
DSC_0048.jpg

The Triple Aught Design booth was always busy - and full of shenanigans...
DSC_0050.jpg

The ITS Tactical HQ - home of the best morale patches and skads of other cool gear.
DSC_0051.jpg

The fellas from Expedition Ops were there again and having fun. These guys talk the talk and walk the walk ;)

But wait, there's more!

Frank Ledwell and Co spreading the good word about OutdoorX4 magazine.
DSC_0073.jpg

New instant tents from Oztent
DSC_0071.jpg

DSC_0074.jpg

The new Dutch Oven table from Tembo Tusk - we really like the idea of being able to cook with one of these up off the ground.
DSC_0077.jpg

The American Expedition Vehicles Ram 2500 with FWC... :drool
DSC_0081.jpg

Very well thought out, like Mopar made it. Even better than OEM really.
DSC_0084.jpg

Fit and finish on all the AEV stuff we've seen is top notch.
DSC_0085.jpg

The Falken Tire Jeep. Nice.
DSC_0090.jpg

Bryon and Sarah of Exploring Elements and their EEXP Prototype. It can carry all the toys in style and provides a nice bit of weather-proof comfort at the end of the day. We really like the direction that XP is taking with this and look forward to them offering this "module" with a pass through for your vehicle of choice
DSC_0095.jpg

Inside the EEXP, multipurpose modularity is king.
DSC_0100.jpg

Minimalist kitchen with giant fridge
DSC_0102.jpg

We really liked the American Adventurist badging on the new TRD Pro Tacoma at the OutdoorX4 booth :thumbsup
DSC_0111.jpg

Fusos were everywhere again this year. This one sports a custom Four Wheel Camper.

DSC_0113.jpg

Power Wagon from the Mopar museum.
DSC_0121.jpg

Immaculate specimen.
DSC_0122.jpg

The Mighty FC, always a show favorite. If they brought this into production I'd have a hard time staying away from the dealership...
DSC_0125.jpg

This Willys from the Mopar museum sits atop a modified JK Rubicon frame and running gear... very sleeper
DSC_0126.jpg

Tigers were there, here's the Himalayan
DSC_0133.jpg

And the Himalayan LT driven by a certain DiploStrat
DSC_0135.jpg

Then we spotted this TEOTWAWKI Sportsmobile... and our jaws dropped.
DSC_0141.jpg

It even had an AAV patch inside...
DSC_0143.jpg

Incredible build quality everywhere I looked.
DSC_0144.jpg

One of the coolest Sportsmobile interiors I've ever seen. Very utilitarian.
DSC_0145.jpg

1943 Willys from the Mopar museum that I had the pleasure of driving. Seems no one at the OJ booth knew how to drive a manual with a column shifter (3 on the tree IIRC) so I jumped on that grenade when it was time to park this for display :D
DSC_0150.jpg

Stopped back by our camp for water. Note our solar was in full use and we had my shower deployed to keep us presentable, and odor free, at the show.
DSC_0158.jpg

The Campa Unimog with custom Phoenix Camper went home with some Unimog size AAV badging ;)
DSC_0171.jpg

The U500 is a beautiful machine...
DSC_0172.jpg

Another view of the Pronghorn MFES bumper and skid on the 2014 Tacoma with low mount winch. These guys put a LOT of thought into this whole system. At first I was "meh" on it but as you realize the modularity and killer recovery options built into this it grows on you. I cant wait to see the fully finished version.
DSC_0177.jpg

Lexus aka Prado - there were a few of these at the show and they are very nice when properly built.
DSC_0184.jpg

The Tres Amigos...
DSC_0216.jpg

The new 2014 Power Wagon was there showing off it's prowess on the O-course. I like it, but the graphics are a real fly in the ointment for me. YMMV.
DSC_0228.jpg

Land Rover Las vegas was there in force again this year and letting folks try out the latest Rovers on the O-course.
DSC_0232.jpg

DSC_0240.jpg

Guess who was driving this G-Wagen?
DSC_0249.jpg

The EEXP going through it's testing on the course. Working perfectly too.
DSC_0274.jpg

DSC_0282.jpg

The big boys - lots of Mogs and Mans there this year from around the globe.
DSC_0291.jpg

A nice Defender with some toys that caught my eye.
DSC_0293.jpg

Trump was in love with this one.
DSC_0297.jpg

All in all, we had a GREAT time at the expo. It's always nice to see the latest and greatest and catch up with old friends.

But the best part of this trip started on Monday when we peeled out of here and headed north into Utah... a trip so epic that it deserves it's own trip report...

That diesel conversion in the 60 series Land Cruiser was pretty awesome. Also, did you eat any of the grub that Cam and company fixed at the Mojoe Griddle booth? Wow! Pretty freaking good stuff!

Yes! The real star done on the Mojoe Griddle for the Sunday vendor sponsored breakfast was Jerry's (Tembo Tusk) sausage... a homemade (by has Afrikaner wife) South African sausage called Boerewors and it's derivative dried version Droëwors. I thought Chris Cole was going to come to tears after he got a few pieces of that savory wurst. It's worth driving out there from Virginia for that sausage, I'll tell you what...
