Let's talk BEER

As a central PA resident I am a fan of the local stuff. I am privy to passing by the Tröegs brewery in Hershey on a semi-regular basis.

#1 pick: Perpetual IPA

Alcohol by Volume: 7.5%
Hop Bitterness (IBUs): 85
Color (SRM): Straw / Golden

Malts: Pilsner, Crystal, Munich
Hops: Bravo, Chinook, Mt. Hood
Hopback Hops: Mt. Hood, Nugget

In our constant evolution as a brewery, we’ve developed an undying drive to meld the organic and the mechanical. Perpetual IPA utilizes our hopback and dry-hopping to engineer a bold Imperial Pale Ale. It features Bravo, Chinook and Mt. Hood hops in the boil, Mt. Hood and Nugget hops in the hopback, and is further dry-hopped with Citra and Cascade hops.

#2 pick: Troegenator Double Bock

troegs-beer-troegenator.jpg

Alcohol by Volume: 8.2%
Hop Bitterness (IBUs): 25
Color (SRM): Bronze
Availability: Year Round
Malts: Pilsner, Munich, Chocolate
Hops: Magnum, German Northern Brewer
Yeast: Lager

Troegenator Double Bock is a dark, strong lager. It pours into a glass with a bronze to brown color, fluffy white head and bready malt aroma. The Troegenator leaves a rich, warming feeling and subtle spicy flavors. The style, Double Bock, dates back a century or so ago. During periods of fasting without solid foods, the Monastic brewers relied on the Double Bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread," a Double Bock has a strong malt aroma and rich chewy body. In the spirited tradition of naming a Double Bock using the suffix "-ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and nourishment all throughout the year.

For seasonals you can't go wrong with Nugget Nectar

Alcohol by Volume: 7.5%
Hop Bitterness (IBU's): 93ish
Color (SRM): Straw / Orange
Availability: Seasonal (February-March)
Malts: Pilsner, Vienna, Munich
Hops: Nugget, Warrior, Tomahawk, Simcoe, Palisade
HopBack Hops: Nugget
Yeast: Ale

Squeeze those hops for all they’re worth and prepare to pucker up! Nugget Nectar Ale will take hopheads to nirvana with a heady collection of Nugget, Warrior and Tomahawk hops. Starting with the same base ingredients of our flagship HopBack Amber Ale, Nugget Nectar intensifies the malt and hop flavors to create an explosive hop experience.

Other than Tröegs beers I range from Yuengling Lager and their seasonal Bock up to Guinness. I am also a fan of the Sam Adams seasonal brews Winter Lager and Octoberfest. I am hoping to branch out a little more this year and try some new stuff.

So let's raise a glass and talk beer! :clang

Its hard to beat the taste of live yeast, from the brewery or home brew. If i have to buy pasteurized beer (any beer you drink that isn't home brewed or served at a brewery), i find Stella artois hard to beat.

Big fan of Narragansett, better than they used to be......Thier Bock is nice on winters night, can be hard to find outside of New England though..

Now I like a good IPA like Redhook Longhammer but I can only drink one and then have to switch to something else, just too much acid. And I agree the "over hopping" on a lot of them is just awful; I tried one of those Dogfish 90min IPA's and ended up throwing most of it out.

I have to also agree on the Carona, I've heard people call it garbage beer and that they don't even drink it in Mexico but I love it. Especially on a hot summer evening cooking steaks and seafood on the grill, nothing goes better than a Carona Lime and a little dash of salt.

They really don't drink Corona that much in Baja, Tecate is generally their beer of choice. I'll drink most anything, but usually stick with Coors Light because I can drink them all day...and if you're going to drink all day, you have to start early!

have any of you tried any "sour" ales? They come from Belgium mostly, though there are some domestically brewed ones. These are my new favorites, very refreshing! They are generally brewed as ales then aged in barrels for over 6 months. the sour flavor comes from "renegade" yeast strains and the sour is similar to that of yogurt. Unfortunately they are relatively expensive due to the effort/time that goes into brewing them. I am definitely a beer snob...

I love a good beer, that Troeg's Bock is great. I agree to many have gone overboard with their IPA's, thankfully thats coming back down to earth some. Highland Brewery in Asheville NC is one of my favorites atm... My personel favorites are Ambers and Browns. I really like most of Sam's stuff... It's been said that Sam Adam's is for people who like craft beer but are to lazy to keep up with all the new breweries!! NC is loaded right now, last count there were over 40 in Wake county (Raleigh area) who knows how many might be up in the hills... LOVE IT!!

Craft beer is right up my alley. Troegs nugget nectar is one of my favorites of all time, but finding it in california is near impossible. The one I enjoyed most recently was black market brewings "Seek and destroy", a smoked quadruple ipa.. but I LOVE me some ipa. For camping, my go to beers are oskar blues brewing, mostly because they stand behind the "pack it in, pack it out" philosophy. ..

I try to always grab something new and a standby.

Lagers for when it's hot.
IPAs, Ambers, and even the odd Hefeweizen with or after dinner.
Sometimes I try stouts later in the evening, but I don't know if I like them. I can never remember.

Tecate... Gag. The worst tasting swill to ever come out of Mexico IMO.

I'll agree with you 10000% on that one dave.. I'll drink pretty much any beer that's getting handed to me, even tecate, but I refuse to purchase it...

I agree on the Stout when its cold, Guinness is my number 1 of all time favorites but rarely do i drink it in the summer. As far as hefeweizen Paulaner is probably my favorite although Redhook used to make one that was great but for some reason they discontinued it.

I like something cold in the summer, but once it turns cool in the fall, any beer I own will likley still be in the fridge come summer. A six pack lasts about a week when drinking hard. :)

Friends visit and hand me heavy dark beers. I drink them to be nice (one is about all I can handle), but am at least as happy to drink something simpler, like MGD bottles, or diet Sam Adams.

I really enjoy a good beer.......Whenever I do a trip, I pick up some unique craft beers to drink. I enjoy stout, porter, lager, pils, sometimes an IPA.

I wish I had time to home brew... for now, stone brewing is always a good bet. Here is tonight's choice.
