Tone deaf.

I love how the OEM’s are moving to cut out the aftermarket and smaller shops with stuff like this “Dealer-installed option only”….

I don't think that'll happen with Jeep. That's probably one of the reasons why Ford added the Bronco bolts. To encourage the aftermarket to catch up with the Jeep aftermarket.

Toyota, tone deaf is right. Look at the competition going on between Ford and Jeep. There's enough demand to keep both happy. I just read an article where some dealers are putting a $20,000 markup on Broncos. Because they can. That markup puts the price right in the Land Cruiser range. Toyota's responses to cancel the Land Cruiser and have nothing to fill the void.

I'm also a Toyota guy and you're killing me Toyota.

This reminds me of how Microsoft Internet Explorer, at one time having over 95% of the market, lost it all. There is a cartoon regarding the competition between the browsers and the demands of the market but I can't find it so I will summarize.

panel 1
All the browsers are standing around a podium and one from the podium shouts "What are we!" and all of them, except Internet Explorer who is silent, respond with "Browsers!"

panel 2
"What do we want!" is shouted from the podium and all but Internet Explorer responds with "More Speed!"

panel 3
"When do we want it!" from the podium and again they all respond except for Internet Explorer. "Now!"

panel 4
Internet Explorer shouts "Browsers!"

Toyota's response to canceling the Land Cruiser, their flagship vehicle, in the United States was that they remain committed to the SUV market yet there's nothing to replace it.

Their flagship vehicle. Nothing.

That's a panel 4 shout of "Browsers!" if I've ever saw one.

Truth. Toyota’s leadership is glaringly obtuse. As a longtime Toyota fan, I’m appalled by their current course and heading at the corporate level.

I am also quietly rooting for them. Hoping for a big reveal that would redeem them.

But, the Chicago Auto Show is right around the corner, and it’s crickets so it’s not looking good for 2022…

Not likely. I’m hoping they will only take a year or two off to create some separation then come back with a Land Cruiser that is more capable, simpler, and definite price differences in market from the LX. But as of now it’s just a dream.

The hope angel sitting on my shoulder is saying much of the same thing.

The pessimism devil on the other shoulder is telling me the new US Land Cruiser is going to be an EV to try to compete with the Hummer and Cyber Truck.

...

The pessimism devil just smirked and said "you know it's going to happen"

There was some hay made of that at SEMA this year when they announced it. Lexus will be offering parts as well, for example all my Kaon rear door drop down table, baskets and I believe the rear storage shelf.
