Issues and suggestions for the forum

There is a drop down box in the bottom left of the Forum screen. Users can choose one of two viewing styles: Gray and Black (white background) or Dark (black background). Mobile users can also choose a mobile theme.

As for subscribed threads we'll have to learn as we go, I havent subscribed to any yet myself and all the forum settings are fairly default at this point so all user stuff should work just like other vBulletin forums.

I appreciate everyone's patience. This new forum will undoubtedly go through it's fair share of growing pains as we crack the whip on our service provider to mitigate downtimes/errors and as I and my small cohort of staff learn the ropes. :)

Forum Hosts,

Some of the features (such as the color scheme selctions) may not be obvious to all. Is there a quicker way to get to my list of subscribed threads than using Notifications and then using the sidebar menu on the left to get to subscribed threads?

Jim

Yes, once you have subscribed to a thread (you can use the Thread Tools menu, on the top of the page, within the thread you want to subscribe), you can use the Quick Links menu in the top bar of the header. Once of the drop down selections is Subscribed Threads. This will take you to a page listing all the subscribed threads you have. Click which one you want and you're good to go.

Hope that helps.

There is a subform in the "Homestead" called "The Gear Locker". Should that be moved to "The Shed" or deleted? Just thinking of similar threads or duplicate threads popping up in different areas.

Thank you for your input and welcome. The Gear Locker is more for the non vehicle specific things you take on trip. Clothing, stand alone electronics (like a Spot, GPS, cameras), general tools, storage bins/bags and the such. The Shed is more for the "other things" that may have nothing to do with offroading, traveling or camping but are part of your hobbies or likes. Things like snowboards, surfboards, ATV's, bicycles, etc.

One example would be with a cycle. You motorcycle would be in "the Shed". You helmet, gloves, jacket, etc. would be "the Gear". Hope that explains it a little better. :)

I enjoy using Tapatalk when away from the computer. Does anybody else want that capability?

Right but but i guess what i am getting at is shouldnt "the gear locker" be a subform of "the shed" instead of "the homestead"?

My foot locker lives in the house, don't want expensive gear in the shed or garage myself.

I feel that area specific forums should only be used for trip planning or trip reports. If you want or need a place for general BS (wrenching party, where to find a smog shop) you should start a group. This will help to keep the forums from getting cluttered and difficult to search in.
Trip planning threads should be locked on the day the trip starts and trip report threads should be locked so they can’t be hi-jacked just like build threads.

I don't dig groups... They have a separate from the forum feel to them, and I never check them.

Area specific forums are for whatever's going on in specific areas, so long as its within the realm of the forum... That said, there is a garage section.

I agree.

I don't check/use trip threads, group forums, and whole heartedly endorse thread hijacking. Conversations drift. That's the nature of conversations.
This is just online conversation.
If it didn't drift/hijack, I should get paid to read it. That's a real "report".

These are some good ideas. Keep them coming. Please note, much of the staff will be attending the Desert Rendezvous so don't be upset if replies are not posted quickly.

Thanks and keep it real!
