Inexpensive equipment you cannot do without

My additions for trips with my toddler also includes baby wipes, pull ups, an emergency change of hello kitty clothes, and other accessories. Nothin says hard core like a stop to blow bubbles and redo pig tails!

My additions for trips with my toddler also includes baby wipes [...]

We're past the toddler stage and we still carry the wipes just because they're so damned useful. End of the day "wipes bath" is a thing for all of us before climbing into a sleeping bag...

I agree wipes are always with us even if it's no kids or it's just me and the guys camping. Great product.

I don't know if y'all can get these in California ; :) Strike Anywhere Matches. Plus various sized ziploc bags and a genuine mil slurp IFAK from the flea market for $20 , cotton balls impregnated with petroleum jelly, flint/ striker, compass. 5 gallon bucket/ Spacial Rectifier, for making crepes:lol. Washing clothes , a camp chair, grey water storage, water collector, changing oil, and many other various uses.
One day I'll recite to you my version of "Ode to ye Commode". Or sing to you my one hit wonder " Latrine Messiah".

Along with a lot of the other cool things already mentioned, this stuff is the bomb. http://www.rapid-fix.com/

I was able to fix a winch solenoid that had a corner completely damaged, thank you Warn for sending me a winch with a damaged part in the box. I also repaired a broken H13 female connector with this, and fixed a broken o-ring.

I ran Warn winches for years. Seems the solenoid have always been the weak link. Thankfully, they are easy to replace. I carried a spare and a spare remote (their older toggle style remotes are bomb proof).

What brand of strike anywhere matches?

This has been an ongoing discussion online for several years. The Diamond brand strike anywheres I've had in the past 5 years or so have been pretty bad. I had some in a match safe, when I needed them they crumbled, smoldered, sputtered and otherwise wouldnt light. The boxes I had at home, I decided to use for lighting my woodstove. They wouldnt work reliably even when struck on the box, let alone struck on anything else. I ended up tossing the last couple boxes I had in the fire just to get rid of them. For outdoors stuff I buy the expensive wind and/or waterproof matches and put a piece of striker board in the container. I use strike on box matches for in-camp stuff, keeping the box in a ziploc bag. I use them at home all the time for the woodstove and kitchen stove.

I keep some Bic lighters in the truck but dont trust them. They seem to not work more often than work for me. I think I'm a Bic jinx. The barbecue lighters are nice for camp stoves, but sometimes they dont work also.

If you save the last 3/8" or so on the TP roll, take the cardboard tube out and put it in a ziplock bag you can keep it in a shirt pocket easily. I have them stashed all over in the camp gear and truck.

I've been getting boxes of Penley Matches. Of which I've never had a problem with crumbling etc..

This is what I keep in each of my BOB's

qt ziploc containing
box of strike anywhere matches
box of waterproof matches
film canister of Vaseline impregnated cotton balls
flint/striker
two 6 hour candles
five votive candles
one Bic lighter
P-38 or P-51 can opener
small fishing kit with corn. Because they start all of the trout fry on corn in the local hatcheries, or you could grow the corn or eat it.

I'm all about redundancy, and even though not shown in picture but I sometimes include a lens from a pair of old reading glasses. Got Fire?

Great price. I looked them up online, but they were more. I didnt see them in the online search results.

I usually get them off of their shelves when I'm there. I'm going by on Monday, want me to find out for you? Can someone send strike anywhere matches in the mail?

The Harbor Freight "Freebies". I keep the 4" magnetic parts tray in the XJ. Greatly reduces the chance of loosing a fastener in the sand. Also good as a "magnetic paperweight" for map reading on the hood. Also, the little LED lights (magnetic).

Is there much difference between an EDC item and a carry in the Jeep item?
Have you ever dipped one side of a glob of dryer lint in hot wax? Little extra in starting a fire. Works with cotton balls too.
Pocket knife with large blade and a Swiss Army knife.
Mag light (Two is one and one is none)
Small First Aid Kit w/toilet paper
Water Filter
Duct Tape
Fleece blanket
Leatherman
Paracord, various lengths
Portable battery for cell phone
In my case, 35mm DSLR
Cash
Compass
That's the short list.
