California Wild Fires, 2017

I hope all who lives in California here on this forum are not hindered in anyway by these wild fires. Keep safe.
I remember the Hwy 41 fire in Central Coast in back in August of 1994. Came up to the hill side were my home butted up to.

Paige's Family home is in Shadow Hills where the Creek Fire is burning. They lost a few homes on their street and the fire burned up and scorched the back fence but luckily the home was undamaged.

Machelle and I live a couple of miles south and east of the Lilac Fire. It got within one ridgeline and I-15 of getting to us. Trying to get the trailer out if we were evacuated may not have been very feasible, but we were ready to go if need be.

The power is out at our place, being told it may be a couple of days before it's back on. One of the benefits of living in a trailer is we are self contained, can continue to live just fine without shore power!

Friend over on IH8MUD is in danger up in Ventura from the Thomas fire. His mother has already lost her home. SIL is getting lots of smoke from the Lilac fire down in N San Diego, but ok for now in Oceanside. Winds are 'supposed' to be lessening this weekend I think. That'll help all the firefighters, god bless them.

The Lilac Fire is just a few miles North of us. This shot is from yesterday afternoon. The wind has died down, but, it is now blowing back on us. We are keeping watch and ready to roll as we are next to the mandatory evac zone.

Only good news I saw at lunch was that planes were back landing to the west at John Wayne telling me that perhaps winds are shifting from a Santa Ana to an onshore flow.

The wind reversing to an on-shore flow is BAD news for me! I'll still have I-15 as a fire block, but fires seem to jump freeways with little effort lately.

Stay safe! Guest bedroom at Casa Adams is reserved for my SIL if necessary.

Just stay hooked up? I think historically fires blown by Westerly winds do not move as fast as the ones pushed by Santa Anna winds.

yep, we're pretty well insulated from brush/ fuel on large parcel. Thanks for the inquiry though. 20k gallons of water in tanks with a 100KW standby generator, not a prepper just a realist country boy that has learned not to count on the government to save me

Machelle was a champion through all of this.

I had to work Friday and Saturday, and as Ralph said, she has a broken collar bone to boot. In our case, being old paid off. I was in the Navy and deployed for most of the '80's so she is a survivor on her own. Machelle went through two pregnancies and one birth on her own while I was out to sea, she has endured the pain of passing a kidney stone while chasing the Baja 1000...I could go on and on. In my house, I'm the pansy ass when I'm injured or sick...fortunately, I ate plenty of dirt when I was a kid, regular Baja visitor, rarely use any kind of microbial wipe, and somehow I don't get sick very often, but when I do...

Anyway, we are back to 100% once my neighbor told me to cycle my power to whatever the box is that gets me on the interweb. All of the pretty lights are on at least. We still don't have cell service...I hate it because I can't check on Machelle when I'm at work. Fortunately we have neighbors that still tolerate me because they really like Machelle. They have a landline, so if we really had an issue we can still communicate.

These events can be a very useful learning and planning aid. Sounds like a little anxiety was the only byproduct. The next time something similar occurs you will be better prepared to deal with it, no need to ask me how I discovered this. Glad it ended well
