Buying a new truck in AZ...

So, the word is that this is doable so long as sales tax is equal to or more than what CA charges. In this case Murrieta, CA is 8% while Flagstaff, AZ is 8.951%

If AZ was less than CA, CA would want the difference. A vehicle purchased in say OR with no sales tax would gain you nothing as CA would have its hand out upon registration.

AND, the vehicle MUST be CA emmissions compliant aka 50 states compliant. If not, it's a no go.

AZ dealer will give me a 90 day plate and I can register it wherever I wish. Fingers crossed.

What about your state of residence? Is it the outstanding wants and warrants? :D

So if you were to buy it and lic in Oregon on the military exemption and at some point in the future (yr or 2)decide to reregister it in sunny Ca. what would those ramifications be?

Yeah, life on the lam has it's challenges. Someday when they catch me I'll plead innocent and walk like OJ did

I could register and plate it as a WA vehicle BUT that has it's own set of challenges. I will probably just register it in CA and use the out of state mil resident waiver for reduced fees.

A slippery slope methinks and a game I'll not risk. As they say, the juice is not worth the squeeze.

Wasn't aware that Wa. was home state, thought Oregon was floated as option. I concur re: squeeze.

It is... I looked into it and CA was still going to get its taxes one way or the other.

Dave check out this dealer in Kellogg ID. They claim to have the best pricing available.

The dealership has vehicles stored everywhere in town! Coming down from the ski resort in town on the gondola I was amazed by the amount of rigs!!
