Anyone here build their own house?

I just recently moved into our new house. My family has been working on this project for the last 2 years. Still not finished but we got it livable and moved in. I will eventually hang the doors and finish all the trim but for now I'm taking a break. We built this 100% our selves with some help from family and friends. Thought I would share some pics here.

This is the living room kitchen area. Yes there is a real boat hanging from the rafters. The lights are old coleman lanterns I converted to electric

An old dresser converted to a sink

Old sink we refinished for a mop sink in the laundry room. WOW the yellow. I know

The master bedroom nearly finished

Yes, I've built several that I've lived in. Nice job, its nice to see unusual houses with some character.

A couple of mine,

Thanks, they take some work to keep them weathertight when the logs shrink and settle, and some places need a finish put on them. i love log though, I cant imagine living in a normal house any more.

Some really amazing stuff is on Yellowstone Traditions site. New, but look 75 years old or more. Besides their website, I have some books with some of their work.

Yep. We've built a few but our favorite is our current house that my family calls home or as it is better known..."The Clanhold". Every log, the siding, and most of the paneling and trim were manufacture by us. We cut the trees into logs, sawed the logs into cants on our family sawmill. profiled the cants over our Pendu system, tuned the 4/4 lumber into paneling and trim, and the 8/4 lumber into flooring. We worked hard to build the home that we wanted and every night I glance around and feel a sense of accomplishment and pride that comes from having done it ourselves. Of course being a (former) log home restorer made the job a bit easier. Here' a few pics...

As one that works in wood I certainly appreciate your skill and craftsmanship.

Great job, truly a home not just a house

Very cool! I've often given thought to building a tiny house on a trailer. Ive already got the trailer, but I don't know if a family would be able to squeeze into a tiny house. Love it.

Are you talking about Haggis' log flippin' house? That doesn't look like a tiny house to me... and that would have to one heluva big-assed trailer you got there Porigitty. Especially when you compare the house to the free-standing 3-car garage next to it.

Or did you change subjects mid-stream?

HAHAHA Tango.. I did change subjects sort of.. the subject was building your own house... and if I built a tiny house, it would be on my trailer, and I'd build it myself.. similar to this setup:

I built my hunting cabin 12 yrs ago on my hunting property. It started off as a 1 room w\kitchen & bathroom cabin then added a bedroom. 540 sq. ft. 1000 gal septic, well @ 368ft. sits on 276 wooded acres 48 minutes east of my farm. It buts up to the strawberry river where I do a lot of limb line fishing, yo yo's & bowfishing. I built most of it, & farmed out the electrical, plumbing, water well, & the septic.
