I have 5 tanks myself. An 18, 29, 55, 80, and 90 gallon aquariums. The 90 is currently empty. I plan on building a stand for it that'll hold the 55 gallon tank above it. I prefer growing live aquatic plants and keep them in a nutrient-rich soil, capped with a sand and gravel substrate.

Right now I'm just keeping tropical freshwater community fish. I'll post up a species list along with some photos soon.

Great hobby, used to keep a 65 and 35 hex and a 20 long but now I only have a 3 gallon for my desk at work with my Oscar. Usually keep Oscars because they are so easy to take care of and they are very hardy fish. In my 65 gallon I created basically a lake type schema where I filled it with blue gills my daughter caught in a pond, I put them in a cooler with fresh water and a filter for about three days to get all of the dirt and mud out of their system before putting them in the tank and they were surprisingly very colorful; coolest tank i ever did.

Also kept baby turtles including a baby snapping turtle which we had for about three years; also had a piranha for a few years as well.

Here is my current Oscar, its just in a small cheap Walmart 3gal tank; filter doesn't work very well so i have to change out the water every few weeks or so which it kind of needs now.

I have built several koi ponds for myself, and a few friends and family. Our backyard koi pond is 5,000 gallons with a waterfall. Iv'e had our pond up and running for about 10 years now, and still have a few of the original koi that we started with.

Right now, our pond has 3 large koi, 21 bluegill (last count), 2 big channel catfish, 1 albino catfish, about a dozen or more crawdads, and about 10 medium goldfish. I was having a problem with birds (comourants) and the racoons coming and eating our fish, they really like koi, so recently I have strung up monofiliment fishing line around the pond like a spiderweb, so far it's been working. My next step might be a motion activated sprinkler.

Right now the bluegill are activly spawning, but the babies never stand a chance in there with all the other fish. I like to noodle the catfish from thier hidey holes and hold them up to show freinds when they come over. My 3 year old loves to stick her fingers in the water and have the fish come up and bite her fingers, she gets a kick out of it.

Ill have to take some photos soon and post em up.

Backyard ponds really aren't that hard to build, and a good source of fresh water, or food, in case of an emergency.

I have a 20gal wall mount, yes the tank is mounted on the wall and you see nothing, no wires filters ect.Really cool.

Very nice set up. I have to do some work on mine I developed a small leak a while ago so I have to take this tank all apart and redo all the glass and sealent and put it all together again. Something I am going to hate to do.

^^^^ That is cool! I've always like the light that comes from a fish tank. I just feel bad about killing the poor little fishes. Killing plants doesn't really bother me too much.

This is an old claw foot bath tub I repurposed into a pond. It was in pretty rough shape for using as a tub, but made a nice little pond to look into when your sittin on the porch.
I recently put in some underwater led's, ill have to take some night shots next time im over there.

Oscar's require more care than you think, they are very dirty like goldfish and not having filtration is very bad on them. Growing up to 12" long in one year and living well over 10-20yrs. Also need water temps 77-86F not room temp. They are a tropical fish not a coldwater.

Sorry for bitching just get sick of walking by the fish tanks at wal-mart seeing fish mistreated.

I have a 36gal bowfront with 2 Black Moors, 2 goldfish, 1 Calico goldfish, 1 Commet goldfish, 1 yellow koi and a Pleco. Running a Fluval 405 canister with 5 stages of filtration.

Just bought 2 Oscars and a Jack Dempsey in a 36 gal bow front, looking to get a larger tank as this is way too small. I have to clean the filter at least once daily to keep the water clean. Running HOB filter it came with until parts for Fluval canister 106 come in and then will use both.

I used to have a native tank where I kept bluegill, bass, and bullheads. Hopefully one of these days I can get another one going. I miss keeping Oscars, too. What size tank are you planning on upgrading yours to?

Waiting to see photos! That sounds like fun. I'll keep small channel catfish in my tanks until they get big enough to put into my brother-in-law's parents's ponds at their ranch.

Nice!

Wow, you guys have some nice setups, with some cool really fish. Id like to start up an indoor aquarium with some tropical fish. I used to have a 50 gallon tank with many tropical fish, until I got an small arowana which grew up and ate all the other fish. Our digital camera broke but heres a couple crappy quality flip phone pictures of our pond.

More pics and new fish!

Pair of Triple Red Apistogramma Cacatuoides

Gold and Cherry Barbs

I got three Salt & Pepper Cory Catfish.

Angel Fish I picked up from my niece.

Also got two Sparkling Gourami.

Mmmm... I wonder how many more aquariums my wife will let me get...

Not sure but i have to get him out of there soon, he is already too big for that tank. I'm either going to have to give him away or start up my 20g at home.

I've always wanted to get a small arowana. That pond is awesome BTW, is that a natural stream feeding into it or do you have a pump.

Awesome pond! I would love to have something like that. I'd catch and then put a big flathead catfish in it! Do you guys have a bunch of mosquito fish in there to help control any mosquito larvae?

Oscars have such great personalities! You could keep an eye on craigslist for a used tank big enough to house him for life. I see 80 to 100 gallon tanks all the time for around $100.

I could but then i would have to get an apartment to put the tank and me in after the wife blows a gasket.
