All the cars you've owned

I have to say that I am amazed that you people can remember every car you've ever owned. I certainly can't. I'm 65 and I've been driving since I was 16. A few stand out in my memory:

Corvair Spyder with turbocharger. My first car!
Dodge Dart with the slant six and pushbutton transmission. Drove this back and forth to Community College.
VW Camper Bus.
Chevy Nova.
A huge Impala Station Wagon I used to haul band speakers around to gigs.
A Yamaha 350 and Honda 750 motorcycles.
A couple of Chrysler minivans.
3 different Lumina police cars bought at auction.

I'm sure there were others, but I couldn't name them if my life depended on it . . .

Regards
John

98 Disco - Biggest regret. Regret both buying and selling. Weird, right?
Not one bit. I felt that first regret about four years into ownership and almost replaced the Disco. Instead, I learned how to wrench, which has saved me from that second regret. I figure if I can keep a Land Rover on the road I can wrench on anything. :)

My list, I'd actually forgotten about some of these until finding the photos tonight:

1972 Schwinn Cruiser - the first wheels I bought for myself. :D

Schwinn.jpg

1997 Jeep TJ - my first set of motorized wheels. Started as a stock Sahara hard top, ended up topless and doorless on 33s.

Jeep.jpg

1987 Mazdaford Festiva - no photo, comparable to the current Forester in ease-to-repair and cheapness of spare parts.

1973 El Camino - no photo, never did get it running...

1982 Postal Jeep (DJ) - because, punk kid project Jeep.

Postal.jpg

1997 Saturn SC-2 - the last Chevy I'll ever own.

Saturn.jpg

1993 Ford Ranger - no photos. Had it a short time, then traded for the next item on the list to gain four-wheel drive...big mistake.

1991 Toyota 4Runner - this was the second least reliable vehicle I've owned, and not easy to work on nor inexpensive to fix.

4Runner.jpg

2002 Ford Ranger Edge - the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned...flogged for many hard miles and never once complained.

Ranger.jpg

1985 36' Winnebago - actually my home for about six months back in 2002/3 when the bottom of the internets fell out from under everyone.

Winnie.jpg

2004 Honda Civic - it died well.

Honda.jpg

2004 Land Rover Discovery HSE - second most reliable vehicle I've owned, now that certain modifications have been made. :D

Disco.jpg

1987 V-dub Vanagon (co-owned, joint camper project with a friend)

Vanagon.jpg

2003 Subaru Forester X - the least reliable vehicle I've ever driven, let alone owned. People say Land Rovers can be finnicky...it earned the name Sir Clax-a-Lot after the fifth trip in a row where some strange new sound started coming from the engine bay. It is tons of fun to drive though, parts are cheap, and thankfully even major problems seem to be fixable with three tools and an hour of work.

Fun post.... I'm old so too many to list unless somebody wants me to ;) I actually have pictures of all my vehicles mounted in my garage :) Some of the newer were digital but the older ones I scanned and had Walgreen's print them :) was a fun project. Just need to add my wife's latest...

Nissan Rogue .

1993 Ford Thunderbird 3.8 v6 n/a automatic (sold)
1990 Ford Thunderbird "Super Coupe" 3.8 v6 supercharged 5-speed manual (traded)
1987 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer 4.0 I6 automatic (scrapped)
1984 Jeep CJ-7 (free; rust bucket; ended up scrapped)
1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2 v8 (scrapped)
1989 Jeep Wrangler YJ (comp buggy project; sold)
1977 Jeep CJ-5 4.2 I6 3-speed manual (sold as unfinished project)
1967 Kaiser M715 (sold due to title issue)
1968 Kaiser M725 (returned to seller due to title issue)
1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 (still have it)
1997 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6 5-speed automatic (traded)
2008 Chrysler Sebring (traded)
2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited LJ (current vehicle)

The one I had the longest was the '96 Grand Cherokee. The one I miss the most is the Super Coupe, although it probably would have been the death of me at 206 RWHP 308 RWTQ with a 1600 watt sound system. Did a lot of stupid stuff in that car.

The most frustrating ones were the Kaisers. Both had title issues preventing me from getting them legally registered in PA. The m715 I sold to some guy who had a J-truck title (not my problem) and the M725 ended up going back to the seller.

My list is actually pretty short.... considering my advanced age.
1. 1983 Mazda GLC hatchback. paid $150 it was a hot mass but had LOTS of character. I WISH I had photos.
2. 1985 Honda prelude. POS didn't have it long before it died.
3. 1987 Nissan Sentra Hatchback! Great car. bad for AZ. drove it from 1995 to 2001. the last 4 of those years in Yuma, AZ. mind you vinyl seats and NO AC!
4. 2001 Nissan Sentra SE first and only NEW I car I owned (minus the ex-wifes rides)
5. 2006 Jeep Wrangler LJ (sold)
6. 1999 Land Cruiser. (still own)

Honorable mention of motorbikes

Oh this is fun.

I'll try to find some pictures when I get home from work.

My first car.
1993 Dogde Grand Caravan
Hand me down from my parents.
This thing was awesome for my buddies and I. Captains chairs front and middle, bench in the back.
1995 Mercedes SL3-- (I don't remember the other numbers)
Hand me down from my parents after the van sold
I didn't drive this one very long
1991 Mercedes SEL420
Another hand me down from my parents.
I actually had this car twice.
First time was after the other Mercedes sold
2006 Toyota Tacoma TRD Access Cab 2x4 with E-Locker
My first pickup!
This poor truck met an unfortunate end when a van full of people blew a stop sign and it was either T-Bone them going 45mph or take one for the team and send it off an embankment.
I ended up flipping it down a 45' hill, landing on my roof and walking away with a cut on my head.
Good truck
2008 Scion XB
Not sure what I was thinking here.
Lowered, 19" rims, huge sound system
All in all, it was a good little car, but I couldn't do what I wanted with it
2012 Nissan Xterra
Current truck
Everything I wanted in a vehicle!
I'm loving it

Wish I had pictures of all of these...

Got my first seat time in a Quad-4 Buick Skylark with a digital dash.
Got my bearings in a lemon yellow, 1980 Audi 80 (in Germany).
Got into trouble in my mom's 1990 Plymouth Sundance. (I know I saw a Shadow in this thread...)

1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. Disappointment.

First car. 1988 Grand Prix. First year of the FWD GP. GM was all too happy to let customers discover all the bugs. Least reliable POS I ever had. 2.8L MFI V6 made 130hp. The base model 4-banger that replaced it made 140.

VJD_3263.JPG

First new car: 1997 Eagle Talon (base model). Basically a Dodge Neon in a sexier shell, non-turbo 2G DSMs got the Chrysler 420A motor instead of the venerable Mitsubishi 4G63T. One had nearly 10 years of global aftermarket support, the other none of the above. We got mocked by a lot of sycophants in the early days.

Daisy taught me everything I know about working on cars. 214,000 miles in 14 years. She got 38mpg and 450 miles to a tank - even with a blown head gasket. Fully built from valve cover to oil pan, she easily put 170-180 to the wheels all motor. (That's almost double the stock wheel horsepower, by the way.)

jv07.jpg

Wanted to get into rally. Bought a non-op, 1991 Galant VR4 (195 of 2000). Got it running. Kid ran a red light. Totaled. KEPT!

031308_FirstSunrise.jpg

1989 Volvo 245 GL. Yes. Very. Yes. Sold to father-in-law.

Replaced brick with 1992 Galant VR4 (464 of 1000). Rear-ended by VW driver texting and driving. KEPT!

20120317_101627.jpg

(Yeah. I had issues for a time.)

20130930_155502.jpg

Sold 92 GVR4 to buy my 1989 Raider, aka: Rocinante. Buyer in New Mexico sold to soldier in the Carolinas. Last I heard, it was fully caged and ready for an engine - nearly ready for rally stages - when a water heater exploded in the garage, coating the entire cage in rust. Being re-done at this time.

Sold 91 GVR4, partially caged, to local buddy with two others (one of which is a stage rally car). It's being finished as a proper rally car as well. I might get to co-drive it some day.

fezzik_socal_mtn_aav_doors_082815-e1441145770125.jpg

Sold Rocinante to buy Fezzik, my 98 Montero.

My wife drives a 2011 Juke. We bought it new and have almost 70k on it. When the warranties are all done, the little frog is getting a boost controller, piping, and rally wheels/tires.

(Love these threads.)

Hmmmm... Not a lot of pics, but some nice rides over the years...
1966 VW Van - split window, California windows, sunroof. Bought for $600 before I had my license.
1977 Datsun king cab. Loved it. Sister wrecked it while I was in boot camp.
1984 Isuzu pick up. Awesome. simple. Sold to brother, he sold it with 220k miles on it
1984 (?) Jeep Wagoneer. GM2.8... POS

1966 Chevy Pick up - for fun
1984 Jeep Scrambler - Sold when first kid was born (Dang it!) Loved this Jeep.
1988 Ford Bronco II - reliable and surprisingly capable off road
1984 VW vanagon - great idea... ughhh...
1991 Mazda B2200 pick up. Great truck, Smoked like hell after 80k but ran until traded in at 180k
1987 Suzuki Samurai - loved it. wish I still had it.
1990 Chevy van
1987 Ford Bronco II
1997 Jeep Cherokee - first time really starting to build for rocks
2003 Jeep Rubicon - Loved it. built for rocks, 35's, etc... Helped me raise my son :) Lost to vehicle fire in 2010
2003 Rubi 12ledge2 (2).jpg

2000 TJ - locked front and rear, 33's
1997 Land Rover Discovery - nicely built, just could not deal with the constant small repairs. Remarkably capable offroad.
2001 XJ - mild build intro to world of overlanding.
Cherokee side.jpg

2005 LJ Rubicon - Ann said "If you could get whatever you wanted" and then she went out and found my current jeep. Should be with me for a long time

I can get in on this.

#1 - 1994 Volvo 940 (non-turbo) Wagon "Elsa"

Had this thing for four years and wished I could have kept it. An amazing $1500 Craigslist with a flawless interior that had, oh, about twice what we bought it for put into it when I sold it, and she paid that back every penny. I took this car everywhere and she did it with no complaint. Unfortunately, she started running rough (Crank Sensor & Cam Sensor went bad at the same time, which means no fun for me) and left me stranded a couple times. This happened to coincide with my study abroad semester in Australia, so I gave my dad my blessing to fix and sell the car while I was gone. Miss this car terribly and I hope if I have kids, they can start with a car as sturdy as I did. This was the car responsible with starting my #wagonlove :p. My teenage brain had big plans for this car (V8 swap, lowering springs & dampers, better stereo, etc.), and I kinda wish I had kept her just to have seen them through.

#2 - 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport ES AWD "Emmet"

Came back from Australia with a bad case of 4WD fever. Wanted a 4Runner or a Jeep, but ended up with this after doing my research on ExPo and a handful of other sites. I could have been a little more patient with my searching process, but I needed a car because my next semester of college was about to start and I couldn't drive my dad's truck every day. He was a great truck, and I put the money in and sprung for Bilsteins, off-brand all-terrain tires, a K&N, and a few other things, but 15-16mpg around town frustrated me at a time when I couldn't afford to fill this thing's tiny tank every week and a half. That and a limited aftermarket were enough to scare me into bailing on the truck after only 6 months, without ever having taken him on dirt. To be honest, I kinda wish I had him back, but that sale led me to...

#3 - 1999 Subaru (Legacy) Outback 4AT "Ruby"

In an effort to get some semblance of off-road capability with half-decent fuel economy, I turned my attention to the anti-SUV that is the Subaru Outback. This first-gen I found was pretty clean, and I liked the color, so I ran with it and got a pretty solid deal on her. She runs well and she's okay for around town and cruising on the freeway, but the car is kind of a turd with the auto and I was kinda disillusioned in my ideas about what "off-road capability" is! :looney I'm starting to get itchy for a real truck again so Ruby might be passed off to a new owner soon if I can swing the parents on making another switch. I would gladly trade the improved fuel economy of the Subie for low-range and 31"s again!

I feel like 3 cars is a lot for only being a licensed driver for 5 years.

I think everyone who ever owned an old Volvo wishes they had time/space for another one. It's crazy you can basically replace every single broken part on one with an old iPd catalog for less than $2,000, but can't quite justify spending $2,000 to repair a car you probably got for $500. :p

Truer words have never been spoken! An estranged family member has an '85 240 Turbo Intercooler(!) Wagon with less than 100K on it that just sits in a garage, unmolested...what I wouldn't give for that car.

You know, the funny thing is we did put quite a bit of money into that car after we first got it, but after the initial major service (clogged PCV valve led to water pump led to the head coming off...) she ran like a top. IPd is a slippery slope once you become a Volvo owner...that catalogue has you considering things you didn't even know you needed, like sway bars or chassis braces, for your DD Volvo that's slower than a snail going uphill in a headwind!
