2016 Tacoma to be unveiled at the Detroit auto show in January!

A successful Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon could put a dent in the Tacoma if Toyota does not update the truck.

Horsepucky. I'd sooner buy an older Tacoma than a Colorado.

Here it is...

Does anyone else feel like there was a team that designed the cab totally separate from the team that designed the front clip and bed? If the cab was redesigned to better match the rest of the truck, and they removed that enormous air dam, it would look pretty good.

Looks are one thing and this is a let down IMO for a "redesign" since the cab looks 99% like my 2005 but I'd really like to know more about the drivetrain :coffee

I'm pretty sure most people that do any off road traveling with this vehicle will have that air damn removed in a, short amount of time, either by choice, or by force.. lol

Hmmm, so far it looks like a mild refresh instead of a new model. Almost like just new body panels. If they want me to buy one the interior and drive line better blow my socks off.

I am curious what it looks like without the air dam. Is there bracketry, is the radiator exposed. I think it would look good with out the airdam, so long as it still looks clean. I wish my tundra had a removable air dam. My approach angle sucks

if I had seen a picture of this without knowing that it was the "redesign" I would have thought it was any other Tacoma. Looking at it closely you can see some minor cosmetic changes, but certainly nothing to be excited over. Curious to see more about the specs and how it will compare mechanically to the new Colorado

Me too. I've been generally grumpy with Toyota for failing to bring their A game in the face of mounting competition. I'm thinking they are going to lose a lot of market share to Chevy and Nissan over the next few years if the new Tacoma doesn't come with some significant mechanical updates. Especially with Nissan bringing in the diesel option on the Frontier (at least that's the rumor that I've heard).

I agree with all of you on this one. It almost seems like another tired face-lift rather than an actual redesign. I haven't been paying any attention to talk of a new powerplant, but whatever it is, it better at least match (if not exceed) the full-size market in fuel efficiency. If it doesn't, it's a total bust for the North American market. That has always been a point of contention with potential buyers that are just looking for an economical truck option. The Colorado has cemented a turbo diesel for the second year of this new model. I can see it selling really well if all Toyota did was design new wrapper. Also, if the rest of Toyota's line is a barometer for the new Tacoma's price... it may be a tough sell.

This is the part where Mitch comes in and says: "reliability this, quality that, Bailout money... yada, yada, yada." ...But you know what? If Toyota wants to stay on top, they need to stay ahead of GM, and right now it appears that they are loosing the battle of innovation. All of the domestics have improved their quality tremendously in the last decade. It's almost reached the point that if you put a product in front of me that wins on paper... I'm ready to roll the dice on quality and go with it. Is this new Tacoma a feather in Toyota's cap, or does it signal a changing of the guard?

So it looks like the TRD Off-Road versions won't come with the chin spoiler, smart move on Toyota's part. I think it looks a LOT better without that.

Sounds like they get most/all of the off-road traction control trickery that the 4Runner Trail versions get, which is neat.

Powertrain options are the same 2.7 I-4 available now but with a 6 speed auto, or a 3.5 direct injection V6 with either a 6 speed auto or manual. Cool that the manual trans is still an option, good call Toyota.

Toyota uses a 3.5 V6 in the Highlander and Lexus RX, makes 270 hp & 248 torques. A direct injection version should push that above 300 I'd guess, but it may be a new motor altogether. The Highlander and RX both get 25mpg hwy, which would be awesome in a Tacoma.
