I agree with all of you on this one. It almost seems like another tired face-lift rather than an actual redesign. I haven't been paying any attention to talk of a new powerplant, but whatever it is, it better at least match (if not exceed) the full-size market in fuel efficiency. If it doesn't, it's a total bust for the North American market. That has always been a point of contention with potential buyers that are just looking for an economical truck option. The Colorado has cemented a turbo diesel for the second year of this new model. I can see it selling really well if all Toyota did was design new wrapper. Also, if the rest of Toyota's line is a barometer for the new Tacoma's price... it may be a tough sell.
This is the part where Mitch comes in and says: "reliability this, quality that, Bailout money... yada, yada, yada." ...But you know what? If Toyota wants to stay on top, they need to stay ahead of GM, and right now it appears that they are loosing the battle of innovation. All of the domestics have improved their quality tremendously in the last decade. It's almost reached the point that if you put a product in front of me that wins on paper... I'm ready to roll the dice on quality and go with it. Is this new Tacoma a feather in Toyota's cap, or does it signal a changing of the guard?
