Would you buy a RTT from a rental place?

Not sure if this should go here or in the RTT section, so please feel free to move it if need be. I found a place that rents vans with RTT's on them. They are selling some RTT's at were from their fleet that are a few years old. Should I be scared of icky things on the mattresses? Do I need to bring a black light? Are the mattresses cheap and easy to replace? I'm not normally freaked out buying used stuff, but I think the fact that it has been used by I'd guess hundreds of people is what freaks me out.

For a quality RTT at a great discount - yes! Not sure about mattresses, but keep sheets on it and it's no worse than a hotel - which is yuck too!

Identifying the location of this vendor where the vehicle/RTT's are based out of might help to isolate the most likely sources of infection or use.

You know... think Las Vegas - dead hooker smell - mix of putrefaction and cheap perfume. San Diego County - cat urine or rotten eggs - think mobile meth lab, tweakers.

You're welcome... :D

If you feel like you must, then change the mattress. Otherwise, buy a new waterproof cover and a new set of sheets and call it a day.

I would just let the mattress sit in the sun for a day, a lot have a removable cover - wash that - and go camping!

A RTT is actually pretty easy to inspect. Structural, tent material, zippers, screens, fly, presence of all poles, condition of ladder and its attachment point to the tent platform, and the all important travel cover.

Mattress is probably the easiest thing to replace and can be procured from a variety of vendors - CVT, Equipt, Sierra Expeditions and Goose Gear can all provide replacement parts.

I'd be more concerned with one from Riverside or San Bernardino counties... San Diego may smell of sand, salt water, surf wax and weed...
:lol
