I've got huge thighs and by huge I mean - thunder thighs. As well as that, chicken arms haha. Okay so what are some great heart-racing workouts?

I've got into skipping cause I have a skipping rope all the ready for me to use it, but skipping gets boring after awhile. Please don't suggest running as it's summer time here and my skin gets irritated easily outside.

Thanks

kayaking, hiking, spinning, cycling, take your pick! I detest running, and avoid it at all costs. Just remember that you can't target fat in specific areas!

Indoors I assume then? Set up a circuit course. Pick 6-10 exercises and do them one after another for a set time period. Take the same amount of time for rest and then repeat 2-4 more times.

Example: push-ups, crunches, box jumps, pull ups, leg lifts, burpees, tricep extension on a chair then rest. Do each for one or two minutes. Drink plenty of water and stretch after.

I got up off the couch at least 8 times over the weekend, does that count? I figure laying back down is a push as gravity does most of the work!:D

Well Bob start by lifting Tall's or bottles not those whimpy 12oz'ers. Whoops sorry for hi-jack

If you are near a gym that has a swimming pool. Swim laps. You will be amazed at how fast you can drop weight and swimming is not hard on the joints.
Trust me, it will get your heart pounding in short order!

On a serious note, I tend to agree with Jerry. The less impact, the better, especially as you get older, and swimming or even jogging in a pool is easier on the body, and still a good workout.

After one heart attack and two knee replacements, I still hit the elliptical (no impact on joints!) for a half hour and rotate that with same time on a treadmill at a 7% incline and speed just short of a jog as I'm not supposed to run any longer. Shoot, just go for a good brisk half hour walk around your neighborhood - brisk, not waddle and no tall cold ones with you! I try to do this 2-3 times per week and I still walk 18 holes of golf twice a week too. While I don't enjoy it much, I agree with Jerry on the swimming! You may think you are in reasonably good shape - go swim a few brisk laps - it'll kick you in the arse!

Nothing burns fat better than muscle... start resistance training, weight lifting is great for your body and done properly is also great way to improve your cardio-vascular system. If you would like to skip the weights, body weight resistance exercising also works... ie dips, chins, pushups, free squats.... There's lots of good info on the web, just be careful to skip the "bodybuilding" try to sell you something crap.

p.s.... I agree, go low impact, running only burns a handful more calories than walking and running is brutal on the knees.

Don"t expect results overnight. Start slow and build onto your workouts. If you hit it too hard right out of the gate then you tend to get really sore and take days off after one day. If level one is too light the first day, bump it up the next. Both intensity and duration. Good Luck! And enjoy your workouts.

Walk walk walk 'till you drop drop drop! There is no better exercise. Avoid hills if you want to avoid joint impact. Bicycling is good but you need a safe place to bike. Swimming is good too but you have to have a pool.

I find that my Jeep owning friends are getting some great cardio time.
They are always talking about running to the auto parts store or running to the dealer.
:wow

Ice skating.

Even just skating at a public skate can be a great way to get in some good cardio.
To Bob's point, I would stick with ice and stay away from inline-skating. I've banged up my knees several times, and ice gives me no issues, but with inline skates you feel the impact everytime your foot goes down, whereas the ice seems to cushion it a lot.

Or you could take up boxing/wrestling... brutal... both just brutal hard... we'd do 3 3 minute rounds and I would be totally exhausted...
