From a rocket scientist I know, “Before everyone starts to ask, it looks like the Falcon 9 launch out of Vanderberg failed after the second stage lit. I couldn't look at it in detail, as I was driving on the freeway, but after the staging operation things look like they went awry.”

My pops was an Air Force SAC missile man. We spent time at F.E Warren AFB in Cheyenne, WY where he was in the underground launch control facility for the Minuteman missiles scattered around the Midwest, then some time at SAC Headquarters at Offutt AFB in then he retired out of Vandenberg. Night missile shots are a sight to behold when you are up close and personal.

Watching an F-14 doing a night launch off of an aircraft carrier is a second close.

My dad was at SAC HQ from 1980-1985. I seem to think we’ve had this conversation around a campfire.

You guys are putting the hurt on me. We were all those places in the very early 60's, my dad worked on the Atlas series.
