Toyota TRD Pro Models: Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner

The FJ is being discontinued in the US market and the TRD Pro models are coming, looks to be more than just cool badging - a step in the right direction IMO.

Not perfect, but the Tundra and 4Runner upgrades make a nice truck nicer and add real capability vice empty bling. I REALLY like the 4Runner.

IMO, the Tacoma, as always, gets the shaft - badging and a TRD exhaust? Really Toyota? How hard would it be to do the aluminum skids and resis across all 3 trucks? Not hard at all, and a real disappointment for Tacoma fans.

What do you think?

I'd never buy any of the three.

The suspension upgrades provided are just 1.5", and add just minimum extra travel. Overpriced and under delivering. Buying the base model and adding good Icon gear, you'll still save thousands, and you'll get the color you wanted.

Aluminum factory skids would be great, but they didn't think of it.

It perfect for the guys who like to drive em off the lot "ready to go", whatever that means to different folks. Mitch makes some good points. I guess you could go Icon stage 3 for the price of this package.

Unless it has a diesel toyota will not sell me another truck. So, how's that new Colorado?

They should have delivered this spread about five years ago, and should be announcing now that there would be a diesel option.

But they didn't, and they aren't. However, Nissan will be offering a Cummins powered Frontier soon. Maybe this will help Toyota with the decision.

More importantly, Nissan is set to release a Titan with a purpose built Cummins and the Frontier and Xterra are supposedly getting diesels as well. Meanwhile, I agree with Mitch about the suspension.

LOL... you beat me to it.

I wish they'd do more with the body styling. I like more of a "work truck" look. These toyotas look too "soccer mom" to me. I have a 13 tundra, it has the best performance of any truck I've owned, but it looks most at home in the drive thru lane at Starbucks.

Actually it's getting a 2" lift and 1" extra wheel travel in the front. Rear resi shocks (5160s) with 1.5" extra wheel travel. Basically Toyota renamed the T/X Pro Baja option for the Tacoma, and gave to the other two models too. If the price is right I really would consider a Tacoma Pro. Means I don't have to buy and install a suspension on a new truck, it has decent sized tires (265/75/16s), and since its an add-on to the standard Off Road package, it gets a locker and ATRAC too. Put some skid plates, sliders and a bumper on it and roll.

Problem I see is after spending all that $$$, I would be afraid to scratch the paint...LOL.

That's why you go home take the pretty pictures. Then go get hammer then ding it somewhere. Then the fear is over.

I recently bought a 2013 Tacoma TRD T/X Pro, and I have been happy with it so far, it has gotten me to some great places I would never have tried to reach with my F350 DRW 4x4 Truck with Bigfoot Camper. There are a lot of great vehicles out there, with many different packages. Are some better than the TRD I bought, I'm sure there are… but what is the "perfect-vehicle?"
I wanted a vehicle off the lot, that I could get to some remote locations.
One thing I am always amazed at is when someone buys a new vehicle and then sinks in another 20K in mods, then when they go to sell it, they list all the things they have done and post the cost of each mod and then ask 15K less than the cost for the vehicle plus mods?
I have used my F350 to see lots of this country and it is pretty much stock.
I hope to go a little more "off the beaten path" with my Tacoma.
