If you've found yourself here on American Adventurist it's obvious you're not just sitting around lollygagging. We've all got that wanderlust and need to see around the next bend or to peek over that far hillside. And we'll use just about any means to do so. Whether by paddle, hiking shoe, ropes and ice axes, snow machine treads, snorkel and mask or by transfer case driven mud terrains.

If your here it also means you like to get inspired by what outdoor adventures other members of our Adventurist Nation have had. Well this thread is just for that; a place to share your adventures with your fellow members to inspire and entertain. No daunting trip report is needed here (though if you just had an epic romp a full report would be much appreciated). So please post Adventures big or small, on the water or deep in the forest, hanging off a rock face or submerged under the water. We want to see them all.

I'll go first...it's just a small thing. Michelle and I's first winter hike of the season. Well I guess not really but our other snowbound hikes involved carting rifles about and shooting woodland creatures so...

With a weekend day not devoted to hunting or preparations for the upcoming holidays, we decided we needed to get out of the house. Not wanting to drive far it was decided we would head on over to a local county Park for a couple of hours in the woods. With temps in the low 20s and a skiff of ice on the light snowpack our hike was an enjoyable but noisy trek through the Pennsylvanian hardwoods.

We did a 6 mile loop and almost to the end of it we found a lady who had high centered her Subaru on the roadside snow bank in her attempt to park as close as possible to the start of the cross country ski trails. Leaving Michelle to calm the frantic woman down (it must of seemed to be the end of her world to get stuck) I beat feet to get back to Fafhrd and his recovery gear. A yank with the recovery rope and the application of V8 torque and another Subaru was free. This makes the 14th Subaru that old Fafhrd has assisted over the years. Remember kiddos, all that traction is useless if you ain't got the clearance.

All in all it was a good day!

My semester was over, grades turned in, but I had to be back in two days for the office Christmas party. I headed out to Old Route 66/National Trails Highway to explore some dirt and get my tires dirty. It was a good day:

I posted about this in the trip report section, but thought I'd play along here too.

I am still mostly on the couch, moved from the recliner (my big adventure). Surgery No. 2 and I start PT (again) tomorrow. Word of advice, do not screw up your ankle, it is less fun than is sounds. Things are getting better.

We disappeared this last weekend and just returned. Back to reality tomorrow but it's been a good few days exploring "pines to palms" and a few favorite spots like Thomas Mtn.

Spent New Year's Eve like we always do camping. Woke up just below the snow line so we packed up and headed toward the snow.

When they got "stuck" it was a good opportunity to teach left foot braking. Not stuck at all :)

It was a great first day of the trip. There's more to this tale but it's late. I am tempted to call in dead tomorrow...

Took the whole family down some unimproved roads in Big Bend last week. Everyone had a blast and saw a part of the park that most don't see.

Bumped into some like minded folks (no surprise).

Frigid winds cut through the holler this day but the sun is out and there's something enticing about frost covered woods. Michelle and I bundle up against the single digit temperatures and head out for a boondocking wander through the Erie Wildlife Refuge in neighboring Crawford County. Sunlight filters through the hemlocks and pines as we pass the myriad of animal tracks scattered in the new fallen snow. The ponds and runs are all frozen over helping us traverse the normally marshy terrain. Chiled air burns the nostrils but it was a good day to be outside...
