Many years ago, an intrepid group of folks got together to map a route across north Georgia. Not just any route, but a route that used dirt - as much as possible - to cross the top of the state. (Think Backcountry Discover Route) They even created a nice web site documenting the route - complete with downloadable waypoints.
This year, I ran it. Well, most of it. Due to several Forest Service road closures, and way too many people in parts of the forest (holiday weekend, and start of bear season), I bypassed several sections of the trail. I did have 2 nice nights of camping, and 2-ish days of trail riding.
I posted a thread in the Georgia section on Tacoma World, and received interest from several people, including @Gallowbraid. We met up in Clayton, Georgia on Friday afternoon. I cut off the official beginning of the Traverse (it actually starts in South Carolina) due to a road closure, started the trail in Dillard, Georgia.
