The apparently new MultiCam

I like the looks but do you think they should use green thread and not so much white?

It is starting to look more and more like that standard 90's BDU coloration patterns to me. The white serves it purposes.

Standard good ole multicam is my favorite hunting pattern. It just works most places.

Not sure who that vendor is Dan but it looks like an off-shore uniform reproduction company and isn't held to an uniform standard issued by the USG. Additionally, the Berry Amendment (USC, Title 10, Section 2533a), requires the Department of Defense to give preference in procurement to domestically produced, manufactured, or home-grown products, most notably food, clothing, fabrics, and specialty metals.

This is what the Army's new camouflage pattern, Scorpion (known as Operational Camouflage Pattern - OCP), looks like in comparison with Crye MultiCam and the old Universal Camouflage Pattern or UCP:

You're saying, "Golly Mr. Tango, that there Scorpion sure looks an awful lot a like to that MultiCam. Why not just buy MultiCam? Hum-diggity carp de carpe!" :D

It's a licensed product and therefore each piece would in essence require a royalty be paid to the developer. Crye played hardball with the US Army and lost.

This is what the assembled product looks like on a bona fide Sergeant:

Not so much white thread...

I have about 4 sets of the Crye MultiCam. It works for me, hides my big arse like a tree it do, it do!! This was from an email a good friend sent me this morning. Because it came from him I didn't bother to research it further. I usually trust what he tells me as he's an intelligent and honorable person. Thanks Tango, I had a good laugh:)

What at was up with the washed out look of A-tacs? Did they ever get officially adopted by the military? Lastly, don't the British military now have their own version of MultiCam as well?

http://www.a-tacs.com/ offers some unusual but effective patterns... their use has been restricted to some other agencies that deploy para-military and overseas contracted personnel. But Kryptek is another camouflage that has popularity with some forces with an IMPAC card, too.

The British MOD adopted a Crye MultiCam-clone with some minor changes for the same reason the Army went with Scorpion. They call it Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP) which was originally tested in 2010 with some leg units deploying to AG and officially adopted in 2011 and replaced the DPM in 2013. Adopting a uniform in a year just seems silly to me without extensive testing and staffing - should have been at least 8 years - would have been much more prudent... :sarcasm

Out west perhaps. It was specifically designed for Afghanistan. It stands out more that the traditional blobbed stuff everywhere else.

MultiCam sucks compared to A-Tacs. I am still a fan of OD, and rolling in the local dirt for an hour though.

Yep, even ACU blends in after the proper application of local dirt snd sweat. True story. I do like my MultiCam for hunting though. Only the airsoft crowd can afford to refit every time there is a new pattern...

Little known fact; The more moto patches you put on your chest rig, the better you blend in.

Have you looked at kryptec? I was surprised after seeing it in person.

If out west you mean everywhere west of Texas then sure lol. That's where I hunt.

I'm not a fan of Kryptek. At all. I see it as just one more type of "fashion cammo" and not a serious contender.

It looks cool and all, very well done. But to me it's just too busy, too unnatural. YMMV.

Going into harms way, I'll take MARPAT or ATACS all day long.

I think Kryptek was designed for the alien battlespace. Looks like it was influenced by the Predator movies...

Kryptek looks cool but but it is not the revolution that MultiCam was. When you compare MC to our old uniforms the change was huge. Kryptek is just not so much more effective that I would replace my gear. I have used MultiCam in nearly every environment from alpine to desert and it works well enough. If you are doing work you rapidly turn the color of your environment anyway but it helps to have an effective base. Hadjis wear what f..ing ever and they are still hard to see until they do something stupid.

That being said, Kryptek is a Veteran owned business so support them if you are inclined.

Great post.

Thank you to those of you that this topic actually makes a difference. Because of you folks I can wear anything I want to. Forever grateful.

Very true. It doesn't take long and you and your uniform takes on the local patina. I've made that same observation years ago when I had my first field uniform, the OG-107. That was the original Universal Camouflage Pattern. :D *NOTE: pictures lifted from the internet. No way was I wearing pants that big... back then.
