3rd: Returning to google maps, I though about "what if" I was to create a google map on line with the saved route and simply send that route to our tablet which was possible. The issue there, was that the route didn't save and once on the tablet, we couldn't edit the route.

In other word @BoldAdventure even after editing a pre-designed map then sending it to my tablet, the map did not save. Thus we'll be avoiding Google maps from now on. The Offline Map/Nav is just what the Doctor ordered.

No offense, but then you're doing something wrong then. Or Android doesn't behave like iOS, not only can you save offline areas, you can send routes to your phone or tablet. I do it all the time. Or maybe you need a google account?

There is even an option on maps.google.com to send to phone.
