Star Trek: Discovery - Worth the price?

I have to admit I'm a bit pissed at CBS for having to stream their service to watch the new Star Trek series. The first episode airs in an hour or so and is free, then episode 2 available immediately after on the streaming service.

I thought there was a silver lining when I heard Netflix will have it, but that's only outside the US.

I think what chaps my hide is the fact that CBS has NOTHING else I want to watch. Netflix has more content than Carter has pills, CBS will have this one show.

Am I over reacting? The original Star Trek was the show my dad and I used to watch, then we always watched STNG religiously. Star Trek doesn't hold the same flame in my heart like Stars Wars does, but there is still a place.

Thoughts?

I'm sure it will be offered as a DVD when the season is over. I'm going to just wait for that to come out, and I'll watch it then. Like you, there's nothing else on CBS that's worth a monthly subscription as far as I'm concerned.

or you can stream it elsewhere.. just make sure your anti-virus and ad blockers/pop-up blockers are working....

My wife had a good idea. Apparently you get your first month free, so she suggested that we wait until the season is over, subscribe for the free month and binge watch it. Sounds good to me.

As the show goes its "OK", by far the best production value of any Star Trek series. Acting was a little over the top, not to bad, and the story line is interesting.

I grew up on Trek & Star Gate, but this new series, everything about it sounds like it's horrendous. CBS has always mismanaged Trek.

Trekkie from the original series thru all the iterations, but I'll be damned if I'll pay CBS to watch this series. DVR'd last night's episode yet to watch as we've been totally engrossed in the PBS Vietnam War documentary that has been excellent.

Can only hope the CBS streaming revenues don't jump and that this'll eventually be On Demand or on CBS.com someday. Hell can freeze over before I'll pay CBS a dime.

Loved ST: TNG, but I sort of burnt out over it, ended up not bothering to watch the last few seasons of ST: Voyager or ST: Deep Space Nine.

Loved both SG:SG1 and SG:Atlantis, they could have kept those shows running for 20 or 25 seasons each as far as I was concerned. But don't get me started on SG:Universe . . .

Come on SG:U got good in it's second season. The big problem is they were trying way to hard to make that series something the rest wasn't. They blew it with the first season.

I miss SG:1 - we still watch it from time to time, I have the whole thing and Atlantis on my Plex media server. Never get tired of watching an episode. That show was great for being light-hearted, mildly serious and very self-aware. I missed all the in-jokes and pokes at itself when I was a kid. As an adult, I love when I spot the references.

As in unbiased employee of CBS who has been paid to light some of the promotional interviews and insert shots I think everyone should subscribe

He!! No, F#@* No, Sh!t No!!!!! CBS can go pound sand on this one and I guess you'll just have to walk. o_O

On a lighter note Cris, thought about you last week when I pulled up to a huge lifted Dodge Ram in my little Prius daily driver and the truck had a sticker on the back window that said 'F### Your Prius'. I couldn't stop laughing!!

This is true, if they'd been given a third season they may well have recovered that one.

We had the subscription for SG1 and SGA back when Amazon and SciFi were in cahoots, they'd make them available for streaming minutes after the air date. I have to admit, SG1 was partially responsible the inspiration to get back into adventure travel after I burned out on the Jeep thing.
