Sport Chalet is Closing All of its Stores

I just got this notice from Sport Chalet that they will be closing all of their stores. Jeff Bezos wins! I spent a lot of time as a teenager at their first store in La Canada buying backpacking and scuba gear and dreaming about what I would get if I could afford it.

I was just in one of their stores buying new Reef sandals last week. Sad day for me.

That is a bummer. By far my favorite of the outdoor chain stores here.
 
That is a bummer.. On a side not I wonder if they are having a clearance Sale?

Sports Authority out here is doing the same thing - every thing goes including the fixtures.
 
Our choices are becoming fewer it seems.

Amazon is the future...
 
Prime subsidy for Colorado residents disappeared this year when they began collecting tax for the state
 
Dropped by the Laguna Niguel store Saturday. Only things marked 10% off so far was all the clothing in the center of the store. Nothing else was marked down yet at all. Smallish signs out front about the store closing and signs at the registers that all sales were final, but no indication that 'EVERYTHING' was marked down. I'd gone in to see what the markdowns were like. It'll probably pick up as the closures progress, but rather disappointed at the almost total lack of markdowns.

It is sad to see a decent sporting goods store go under, but the were always on the high end of pricing. Article I read said they'd recorded loses the past 7 years.
 
Yeah, hard to compete with online sales like Amazon, REI, Zappos etc etc

Personally, Amazon is my #1 choice of late. Fast, convenient and saves my time. Visiting stores "looking" for stuff, hoping for sizes or availability, is very tedious IMHO. Especially when I can go to a site like Zappos and find size 14 shoes for example and in 2-3 days they are here. Stores like Sports Chalet can't compete with that.
 
I'm with you @Dave . I do most of my shopping on Amazon nowadays.. It's just easier and most of the time cheaper, especially with an Amazon prime membership.

I stopped at the local Sport Chalet in Redlands today with the family.. Not looking for anything in particular but walked away with a couple boxes of Reliance brand double doodie bags and a 12' x 12' Caravan canopy for shade.. All of it for 20% off.. Not a bad deal.
