Working on a little project here. Quick Pitch Quick Hot 5L water heater, Surflo 12v pump (1gpm, 60psi) wrapped in a Zarges box.

Anyone else cobble something like this together?

I don’t have a similar set up myself, but my sister and brother-in-law have a similar setup utilizing a Triton instant water heater stuffed in a Pelican box and paired to an onboard water tank and pump. It’s been mounted to the side of their home built teardrop, the Crowswing, for years of dependable service.

Dave does that heater vent out the top?

Yes. Open the box, stand it up just like you see it. No need for a flue. I’m actually surprised at how little heat it emits. The unit itself remains cool to the touch, and the venting is on top but even the Zarges box didn’t really get that hot on my 4-5 test runs so far. It’s awesome!

Some more detail shots that show the work required to mount the tankless water heater and the 12v water pump in the box.

This was a head scratcher to cobble together but it’s worth it!

Here’s a detail shot of the top of the Quick Hot. Here’s where the unit vents. I left as much space as possible between that and the wall of the Zarges case. When in use the case is stood up and opened so that the Quick Hot can get airflow.

The pump sits on vibration damping mounts. The whole unit makes very little noise.

That shower mat looks awfully similar to the ones that Expedition Ops sold years back.

That’s exactly what it is. These things are literally unobtainium today. Still going strong!

Just curious, is this in addition to or instead of the WaterPort?

Different animal. Waterport is excellent in hot environments where you can solar heat it. Not so good in Utah in March as I found out… haha.

This setup lends itself to those situations where a HOT shower is required :)

Having a pressurized water supply on demand is super convenient. I've used my WaterPort for a lot of cleanup after cooking. I also use less water with the hose nozzle and quick squeezes over filling up a basin for the rinse. So even if I did something like Dave's shower box I'd carry both.

I, too, carry both an instant on hot shower setup (on the trailer) and a Waterport (in the Tacoma).

I've theorized boiling water and pouring it into my WaterPort but haven't had the need to try. Afternoon showers in the desert are great warm or cold.

Looks awesome. For those unfamiliar with fittings, mounts and hoses--do you have a full parts list? Which Zarges box is that?
