Scored some water proof storage

Stopped by a local warehouse that sells military surplus and picked up a medical supply container. I wanted the case for camping gear and the bins for junk in the shop. What do y'all use to store a and haul your camping gear?

Nice score but what I think is that they are heavy and only as water and dust tight as the rubber seal in the lid. But my comment doesn't claim that I would not use one - I have one also for repair parts and vehicle fluids since it is a rock solid container - I also use it as a step since it can support weight as well without deforming. That AMAL can always goes along when the truck goes off road. I vaguely recall that it mysteriously appeared in my Subarau Domingo when I was in Japan a long time ago...

Be sure to check the seal for brittleness and service with a rubber/plastic protectant periodically like ArmorAll. If no longer serviceable the seal can be replaced with a variety of rubber or foam products that are only limited by your imagination. Also, the latches can loosen with age and deform. Use a wrench to tighten the clasp so it hugs the latch more snugly.

For my kit I use the blow molded plastic lockers for more sensitive items and soft-sided bags. It doesn't take long for the weight to add up and your container shouldn't add to the penalty.

Yep you are right! It is heavy by its self. But for what I wanted to put in it it will work great. I also have a military container that is plastic. It also holds some camping gear it seems like a better unit as far as water proof verses the aluminum box. Here you can see it in my roof rack.

I have a number of those aluminum cases. I used three of them for storage on my recent trip. Two fit side by side in the bed of the M416 trailer. They are a bit heavy and if you're not careful the spring loaded latches can get ya a cut or two if you're not paying attention. I figured they would at least be bear resistant. Definitely rodent proof. Next time I'll use action packers storage bins for the weight reduction and band aid savings. I still like the boxes and agree they would be good for storing other items if the seals are still good. If the seals seem a bit dry use some petroleum jelly to soften them up. I had 100+ freeze dried food packages in one, and the other was for my kitchen. It holds a Coleman suitcase stove in one end, and it's a very nice fit.

I second that!
Bear proof, Yes.
Heavy as a mother ......, Yes.

You'll find that at camp or at home you'll only lock a couple of the latches because you get to impatient in locking ALL of them. Ya, I've ripped a pair of Dickies, cut my leg up while wearing shorts and had a latch snag my jeans and took me down. I saved my beer though. I've learned to just latch them all. Good case but don't expect it to be completely water proof.
