Travis called me up today and said he wanted to get out today, initially suggesting something in the Descanso area, but Snow and Mud are off my plate for awhile. Besides, I think it was more like slush and mud up there today anyway. So Anza Borrego came up, and it was either Grapevine Canyon, or Font's Point and surrounding areas, maybe back through Grapevine Canyon. Since we didn't know the trail and it's 10 miles long, we decided on Font's since Travis had never been there and I have never explored around it.

So we headed towards ABDSP via Ranchita with a quick stop at the store for some snacks.

Shortly after, we were at Font's Point enjoying the view, contemplating our next move. Looking at the map, I saw we were not far from 17 Palms, so we decided to take the side trail off of Font's Wash, and head east through the badlands.

It wasn't too long before we were at the 17 Palms area! This is a good deal if you're in the area, you get a few more palms than 17!

After eating lunch among the 17 Palms, we decided to go see the Pumpkin Patch since we had never been there before. Along the way we saw a turn off for the 5 Palms, but it wasn't worth stopping, it looked like there were less than 5 Palms. So on to the Pumpkin Patch.

After finding a nice parking spot, we walked over to the patch itself... This is a pretty interesting geological site.

It was interesting to learn that concrete occurs naturally!

From here we decided to head south to the 78 via the Cut-Across Trail to the Shell Reef Expressway and finally to the 78, but Travis was getting cautious with the soft sand and the increasing difficulty of terrain on the Cut-Across Trail, so we headed back the way we came, back to S22 and home from there.

It was a nice day of exploring some unseen places for us both. I think next time, we're going to go exploring/camping along the southern area of S2.

Nice trip out and about Mitch! I really like that last photo, oh, and thanks for posting up some sunshine.

Bob would have loved the high speeds through Tule wash

Tule wash is usually wide and smooth. Pin it to win it! Cut Across Trail on the other hand is rock strewn, whoop filled, misery. You guys didn't miss anything by turning around there.
