It's been in the news today so you've probably all seen that one of the "Royals," Prince Harry is in Washington, DC and paid a visit to nearby FT Belvoir to watch a Wounded Warriors wheelchair basketball game. His primary purpose for being here is to promote and event he initiated last year called the "Invictus Games" and was first conducted in London in 2014. The 2016 games will be held in Orlando, FL.
All the other images I found had pictures of Michelle mugging for the camera with the Prince. My uniformed experience at Bethesda will not allow me to associate her with wounded veterans.
That's all very nice Tango. So what?
I think that is damned impressive. He definitely is one of the privileged class of his nation and he could have easily been assigned to a staff job and nobody what have thought ill of him. But he voluntarily (actually fought to do) did 2 tours in Afghanistan as a FAC with a leg unit and then as an Apache pilot. All the while with a price on his head - goodonya Captain Harry Wales.
Ten years of uniformed service and he's still there for his mates - and us, too. He trained and served with US Forces and he, like Winston Churchill before him, appreciates the unshakable US-UK bond we enjoy. He continues to serve today by being an advocate for all wounded servicemembers.
But he wasn't the first Royal to put it on the line. His older brother the crown prince is an active RAF helo pilot performing patrol and SAR missions in the dangerous North Atlantic. His Uncle Andy was a 20 year man in the Navy as an aviator but first earned his green beret with the Royal Marine Commando, officially designating him a bad ass, from my experience. As an aviator he also flew all manner of rotary wing missions in the Falklands, which was a brief but viciously fought war for both sides, and at one point very tenuous for the Brits.
I'm no Anglo-phile but I know patriotism when I see it and these men walk the walk. Respect and thanks for continuing to serve Prince Harry.
