Podcast

So on my hour and half commute to work I have decided to listen to podcasts to make the time go faster. I wanted to see what everyone is listening to.

I like "This American Life", "RadioLab", and "TED Radio Hour" for deep dives into topics I would never think of getting into otherwise. The topics are all over the map, but always well done, and the production values are super high, especially compared to a lot of the other stuff out there.
I like "Nerdist" for surprising interviews with nerd and pop-culture names.
I like "Hidden Brain" for relatively short looks at social-science research. You have to like the topic for this one, but I also like that they're <20mins usually, so good when I don't want to start another hour-long thing.
I'm also a weekly devotee of "Still Untitled: The Adam Savage Project", which is basically an audio talk show with Adam from Mythbusters and the guys from Tested.com. Mostly nerd-culture and "maker" focused, but also a strong appreciation for the art of film making (with Adam's background at ILM), so they frequently do deep-dives analyzing good movies.

If you want to get into dramatic presentations in Podcast form (think old-school radio dramas for the modern age), check out "Serial" (a 12-episode telling of the true story of a Murder) and "The Message" (SciFi drama)

Thanks for the info. I just downloaded a bunch of podcast from nerdist and I'm very excited to listen to them omw home from work

I listen to:
  • Joe Rogan Experience (low brow, yet highly intelligent)
  • Fizzle (startup, entrepreneurial)
  • Stuff You Should Know
  • Ask GaryVee (as in Vaynerchuk)
Lately, I've been thinking we need to sstart one here...

Somebody tell me what the Chive is all about. I get the KCCO thing, and who *doesn't* love Bill Murray, but every time I've gone to the site, it's been like a Buzzfeed, aggregating gratuitous stuff scraped from reddit. Am I missing something?

If you're into new cars, or just cars in general, highly recommend The Hooniverse podcast and The Cammed N' Tubbed podcast. I listen to them at work and the guys are pretty funny...they can ramble a bit or go off on tangents but I don't think the shows are ever boring.

I don't go on the website anymore. Only reason why I listened to the pod cast is because it has Marcus Luttrell. That being said I listened to a different one from them yesterday and it was entertaining

I started listening to the overland roundtable as well as the chive. They had a 2 part episode on Marcus Luttrell that was very good.

Hey, I'm one of the panel members on Overland Roundtable! Woo! Dan and I had a conversation today and we are going to be changing some things with the podcast, things that will make it more frequent and better!

I have been listening to podcasts as well. Got tired of the same songs on the radio and figured drive time would be better spent learning some stuff.
I have been listening to "how to do everything", a humorous look at listener questions; "car talk", for entertainment and mechanical insight; and my all time favorite is "stuff you should know". They update regularly and explain all sorts of random things in everyday terms.

How Stuff Works has a bunch of good shows, I also highly recommend the Meateater podcast by Steven Rinella if youre into hunting, Tim Ferris show for interesting interviews, Revolutions by Mike Duncan is great if you like history, he also has a great one on the history of Rome. I commute 3 hours a day, podcasts keep me awake while doing it.

Meateater podcast by Steven Rinella if youre into hunting

I am not into hunting, never had the oppertunity to go. I would like to someday just for the knowledge, but not something I see myself getitng into. That being said @Ironworks Tactical has gotten me hooked on this podcast. Informative, and entertaining

I found another recently that's proving fairly interesting. It's called "philosophize this" and the first few episodes talk about early philosophizers like Socrates and Aristotle.

It's very interesting to learn how people thousands of years ago attempted to understand the world around them. Some of them were pretty close!

+1 on Hooniverse

I always make sure I listen to them, The Smoking Tire, and Autoblog Podcast every week.

I tried Cammed N' Tubbed for a couple months, but I couldn't keep it up. Not sure why.

...also enjoy 2 Enthusiast, and Wheelnerds for 2 wheel stuff.

I like a lot of the same ones you have all listed. I also liked Freakonomics but haven't listened in a while.

Hooniverse Network also just started a new moto podcast called "False Neutral" that's apparently pretty good. I just got into TST and it has moments but Matt Farah's voice can get grating sometimes.
