New Hi-Lift Accesory

Hmmm... interesting. This Alien Jack Base is kinda cool. Just when you thought you had every HiLift accessory in the world

This feature is pretty neat

Clearly a lot of thought and effort went into this well-made piece of gear. The price is a little steep and more than the most expensive HLJ even at MSRP. Now, I've never picked one of these up or even handled it so take my opinion for what its worth, but there are other items you could spend your treasure on. Some of my thoughts...

The manufacturer cautions against side loading... I've never used a HLJ that wasn't subject to side loading. The 4 separate asymmetric legs offer minimal support in soft conditions versus the OE base plate, or larger aftermarket base plates at a third of the cost of this device. The last thing you want is a base for your HLJ standard to continuously search for China in soft soil conditions, let alone instability under load under conditions where the standard is buried. I can see a 60" HLJ turn into 48" HLJ in soft soil conditions.

But a base plate with no less than 12 moving parts? And hinges based on a captive pin/external self-locking retaining ring? That's not the most bullet-proof design. Can't say I'm convinced that this is a game changer.

I had many of the same thoughts but didn't want to comment as I'm far from an expert. I've only ever used my HLJ to rotate tires on concrete. Pretty handy for lifting one side from the slider. This looks like it could be useful in certain situations but seems obscene to pay 3-times the cost of a jack for an extra base that is admittedly extra cool and looks like it fell off an Autobot.

I prefer the base plate by Relentless Fab - does what the Alien one does but with zero moving parts. YMMV.
