Ok, so here is the situation. My dad and brother own an auto parts store in missouri. I built a website for yhem, and they had said they were going to keep it updated. We'll I was talking to my dad last night, and he said he would like to pay me a monthly flat fee to keep their website and their Facebook page updated. I have no problem doing this, but I don't know what the fee should be. I figure it will be around 10-15 hours a month to do what he would like.. so what l would you charge? Keep in mind, this is for family, but also keep in mind that I won't do it for free. I just want to come up with something that's fair for all parties involved... help!

Thanks,
Scott

Seems to me, a fair rate would be 50% off what you would charge a normal paying customer.

That's kinda what I was thinking. My thought would be to ask my IT friends what their going rate for something like that would be, then split it in half... Problem is, I don't know what the hourly rate on something like that would run.. When building the website originally, I billed $25/ hour, and others had said they would charge at least $50/hr for the same thing if it wasn't a family member...

We were paying $75/hr at my previous company for a freelance web designer. This was a blended rate, meaning that he charged us the same for his design/graphics/editing time as he did for subbed-out programming time. I thought the $75/hr was a pretty good deal for his skill level.

I just went back and looked. A freelance designer is charging our club $35/hour for design and maintenance. Sounds like that is a pretty good rate. Looks like you should pick one in the middle somewhere. If you use the $50/hour rate, and cut it in half, you are back where you were at the $25 you charged to build it. I would base it on the high end of time estimate.
