MUEH...Mobile Urban Escape Habitat Trailer

woodienut

Adventurist
A guy named Joe Clark designed this trailer, he is an inventive, awesome craftsman that came down with myasthenia gravis a "chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease characterized by varying degrees of weakness of the skeletal (voluntary) muscles of the body".
Joe was planning on building them for sale, unfortunately he can no longer work.
I purchased everything from him, plans/parts/material and finished his first "demo" trailer that he had started, and only partially finished (approx. 50%). I'm not interested in selling anything, if you are interested here are some build photo's and specifications.

I really love the way in turned out, I've used it for over a year with the only issue being a new Chinese made tire that came apart on the way to Overland Expo last year (see photo, this NEVER happens in front of a tire store!).
I have about $13,000.00 all in, the kitchen was a large part, approx. 5K + labor. The Engle Fridge and Partner stove are great, but pricey.

I've seen a LOT of trailers - this one is freakin' AWESOME! :bowdown

Thanks Dave,
I'm head for Central coast of CA. tomorrow, on the way to Mormon Lake, I hope to see you there.

Very nice!

If you don't mind I have couple of questions:

How is the "Camper" body attached to the frame? (What hardware did you use?)
Where did you get the Door and Windows?
Where did the axle and hubs come from?

Sorry I've been traveling a lot and not keeping up with the interweb. Heading for Overland Expo tomorrow.
The body is attached to the frame with a flat headed "bolt" that has a square shoulder like a carriage bolt, I think you can get them from a cabinetmaker?

Axle came from a local trailer supply co., when I have more time I can look up the invoice.
It's a 5,000 Lbs. axle with 10" electric brakes. A little overkill but I wanted good brakes. FYI, I did have to add 3 extra leaves to the springs after about 1,000 miles. They where new jeep springs when I started out, but they went flat.

Doors/windows/trim over door & window came from: RV Teardrop Trailer Parts, Kits, Custom Built Trailers

Latest mod on the trailer...

I found a rock that fell off a gravel truck in Oregon...Damn lost my stickers!
IMG_3222.JPG

Had the window replaced and 5/6 days later in Colorado, it was damn cold and the NEW window looked like this when I stopped to camp for the night. Fortunately I didn't touch it because it was broken AGAIN which I found out the next morning about ten minutes after pulling out of camp, when it fell out again.
IMG_3308 (Edited).JPG

After replacing it one more time I decided it needed to be protected some how.

Didn't want to loose the new stickers.

Two birds with one stone, as it where. A shield/cover and Solar panels.
IMG_3366 (Edited).JPG

Took a little while to work out the hinges.

Fortunately i have friends that are great fabricators and welders!

Everything works great, panels keep battery charged between 12.4 & 14.4 volts rain or shine.
IMG_3490 (Edited).JPG

IMG_3491 (Edited).JPG

Still haven't removed all the parts and pieces to prime & paint satin black to match the rest of the trailer yet.
IMG_3667 (Edited).JPG

Now that I have a "headquarters" in Old Mexico I'll try to get at the removal painting and reassembly.

OMG, this trailer is crazy! Question. Does this "lock" of "latch" into position? If you forgot to close it and hit the brakes hard, would it flop forward?

These little "Bunge" things on the lower part hold everything down to the rubber bump stops...also they should keep the panels from rattling, fingers crossed...So far?
If I forget, witch is entirely possible...well I guess I see.

Hmm, do I recall talking about window protection with you at that parking lot we met at to discuss your wiring?

Looks like you came up with and executed a solution perfectly!
