So I was invited by my friend Cris M (BlkWgn) to hang out in Monache Meadows for the weekend. This has been on my bucket list for a long time. With the recent recall of the fiberglass propane tanks and a couple other things I need to do, it was a thrash, but I made it happen. What an adventure.
Cris had sent me the way point to get to the campsite and I saved them in my Ipad. So I drove up to the Blackrock Ranger Station and proceeded to open my maps to check out the way points. And a frickin white page opens up with the waypoints on it. Gee thanks. I am by myself as Cris and his wife Page didn't leave until 6:00 PM which meant he would be four wheelin in the dark. I wanted to see everything, so I left at two. So now all I have is a 8 X 11 paper map and I am trying to find Cris's Father in Law Gary. The problem was that every time I stopped to pick someones brain, they wanted to check out the trailer and chat for fifteen minutes. Last stop before the last river crossing and the two guys I stopped to talk to said" oh yea, he is right across the river". I was never so glad to see someone I didn't know. Did that make sense?
As you can see, the sun was going down, so that added to my stress. But the views did not disappoint.
River crossing right before camp
Stream was low, but there were still trout to be seen. And wouldn't you know it, I did not have time to stop and pick up my fishing license!
This is the beginning or end of the meadow that is behind the dam.
So I decide to leave on Saturday to make it back for some Fathers Day festivities that I didn't know about until right before I was to leave. Cris agrees to go with me to make sure I made it through the hill with the rock garden. So we are driving through the big Kennedy Meadow and Cris stops as seen below:
This cow was standing in the road with her calf behind her. Cris slowly, and I mean slowly, edges up to her and she turns and looks at Cris and gives him this " go ahead, make my day" look. I am laughing so hard, I almost had to get out of the truck to pee. Finally she decides to move just enough for us to get around and off we go. This Landcruiser is amazing to tow with. We walked up a steep 100 yard long rock garden with the trailer behind and she never so much as spun a wheel once. I love it!
River crossing right before camp
Our little camp site. Oh and for those of you that have been here, the last camp site that had the carved bench seats......the seats are gone!
