Macs, Windows 8 and other woes...

Recently we bought a Mac as a home PC after the last couple PC's suffered an unduly brief lifespan. Love Safari and many of the unique Mac media-centric features. Don't love how "Office" products have a weird interface on a Mac - would it really be that hard to have the same user interface/experience across different platforms? Ugh. Now, we needed a laptop for school/work use etc (my wife cannot access her work website/schedule etc from the Mac as they do not support Mac... Recently we chose a new Toshiba Satellite with Windows 8, touchscreen etc. I'm not big on change and between getting used to the quirks of the Mac and "Windows 8"... I actually find myself not using the computers at home as much due to PITA factor (for instance, I'm on the new Windows 8 laptop now and for whatever damn reason the enter key is not working... ready to throw it across the room LOL). Am I the only one who deplores the incessant ever changing interfaces and OS changes that seem to be coming faster and faster? Seems like just as soon as I have it down it changes. For those of you who have not used Windows 8 yet... stand by, it's a completely different look/feel.

Windows 8.... the best phone operating system you can install on your computer... oh yeah, your computer is NOT a phone. <sarcasm off>

BTW, if you get out of the home market machines, you can still get Windows 7 by default. Business class machines, which will also out last home market stuff about 8-1. Spend more up front for less issues down the road.

As for Microsoft stuff on a Mac, do you really think MS would put their best foot forward on an OS they did not make?

As I tell people, if you want to do business app type stuff, buy a Windows machine. If you want to do photo/video editing, buy a Mac. Neither does both outstanding. Choose your poison.

Yup. Which is why we have both. We'll see how I like 8 in a month or two.

Why do I always hear from my mac friends that they can install Windows on to a section of their macs and run anything I can run. Is this just stuff only pros can get away with???

Is it not actually true?? I don't get it.

Oh yeah, still running Windows XP without issue :)

I "believe" you can setup a NTFS partition on the mac disk and install windows to create a dual boot machine. I gave up on all Microsoft products years ago. Upgrade costs and buggy software got old. Macs don't do everything I want, but do enough reliably to get by.
