Looking for a roof tent for my trailer

A few years back, Mrs. Leary and I decided to put a roof tent on our camping trailer. We had a Mombasa Expedition Plus. For the two of us, it was great. We even used it on the 4Runner and Land Cruiser a few times. The annex never seemed to work out right, though. Either too short for the Land Cruiser and 4Runner or too long for the trailer. I think we used it at Overland Expo in Amado the last year to fight the dust storms. Apart from that, I cant recall using it. It was also a bit of a pain to set up. The tent was fast, though.

Anyways, I recently breathed new life into the camping trailer, and my wife mentioned that she really misses the roof tent. Of course this got me spun up looking at options. Since our last roof tent, we have grown from a family of two to four. Mrs. Leary also didnt feel super comfortable with the part of the tent that was not over the roof.

So I would like to get a tent that sleeps 2+, preferably has the sleeping platform on the trailer, and includes a usable annex for the critters (both 2 legged and 4). I came across the CVT Mt. Jefferson, and it seems like a good option.

Does anyone have any experience with the Mt. Jefferson or have any alternative tent suggestions?

I'd give a look to Tepui. I have the XL Ruggedized with the annex. My son and I are both ~ 6' and in excess of 225 lbs. The part of the tent that is "in the air" has always been very stable. The ladder is sturdy and well thought out. The annex is spacious and has screened windows with privacy covers that can rolled up or zipped down. Three grown persons can sleep in the tent without anyone touching. Go to head to foot configuration and I believe 4 could fit comfortably, 5 if you don't mind rubbing up against each other occasionally. Mattress and humidity pad are both first rate. To date have done all four seasons with temps between 10 F and 85 F at night. Comfortable in all occasions with 4 spacious screened windows and privacy covers that can be rolled down for maximum air flow or zipped in place to keep the heat in. Stayed dry as a bone at AR 15. The only knock I have on the tent is that the zippers are loud.

Full disclosure, Im starting the discussion now, not planning to buy for a while yet. My wife's birthday is in March.

Hello Mr Leary, this is Matt over at Goosegear. I would highly recommend the Mt Ranier which comes with the annex. I have this tent myself for my family of 4 and it's a perfect fit. The CVT tents now have an adjustable height on the annex for different height vehicles or trailers. I really like this tent because the kids can sleep down below and if need be you could actually fit two adults and two kids up top. If you have any more questions me or Brian would be more than happy to answer them. If you are in Socal you can even come by and see the tents on display.
