Lets see your past rigs

I know alot of you guys are like me and tend to go through vehicles pretty quickly. So i wanted to see what your guys past "built" rigs are.

here are he ones i regret selling the most.

2003 F250 7.3L CC 4wd. Full duel front and rear fox res shocks w/ custom valving, 8" fabtech lift, 37" xtreme all terrains, defender rack w/ hella lights, front custom bumper with 12k mile marker winch, soltech lights, 6" black stacks, custom TCI fully built transmission and a whole lot of done to the engine.
this rig was regularly wheeled.

2000 Excursion 4wd 7.3L . this one i only owned for about 6 months. had 10.5 DR lift with deaver springs, custom, amp steps, 40" toyo tires on 20" wheels, custom bumper made by myself with harley davidson grill and headlights, i also didnt like the tan bottom so i painted it black. other than that it was pretty much stock except for a few things i did to the engine to boost up power.

1985 CJ7. had a rubicon express 4.5" lift on 35" bfg mud. other than that it was stock.

and being towed by my F250 with a leveling kit and 35" tires

I had a custom built avalanche. It was caged front bumper to rear. Running a 4 link rear end with currie 9" and 91 bronco twin traction beams that we cut lengthened and turned so it was 4" over. That's the basics of it but of course it was much come complex then that in reality.

I don't think I should participate in this thread. 10 years, 13 vehicles, 5 motorcycles....I'd have to dig for photos! Each one a great memory though (including the bad juju van on 35s)!

my old shop truck, 1990 GMC Z71, mildly built 383 Stroker (built for torque) Holley TBI system, custom computer & chip w\ water vapor injection kit, built 700R4, 3:73 possi rear. Dual exhaust w\ dual cat's.

I hate these types of posts...make me miss everything I used to have and shouldn't have gotten rid of...

Start with the 2 wheel rigs...

How about a 3-wheeler, just because that thing was so awesome? Truly one of the coolest Adventure modes of travel I've ever used...

Thanks for bringing this back from the dead. It is always fun to look through this sort of thread. Most of mine were from before digital photos, so pretty poor quality.

1969 FIAT 124 Sport Wagon: This thing took me everywhere! Lots of miles on back gravel roads and forest roads in eastern Kentucky, Tennessee, around the Smokies, etc. Cheap nylon tires were like skates in anything slippery, but if it had traction, it would just keep going. Second photos isn't mine, but exactly like it. I had to remove the rack, as it rusted away.

1988 Ford Ranger 4X4: All stock, with an aluminum bed cap. Either tent camped, or used the backpacking pads in the back of the truck. Longest trip in this was four weeks cross-country, backpacking around Mt Rainier. Again, mostly gravel and forest roads. It did set the one-day Ranger Land Speed Record at Bonneville when we decided to try dry lake bed driving. (Yep, bald then, in 1993, for my 40th birthday)

2008 Subaru Outback 2.5XT Limited (5 speed manual/turbo): AT tires, a slight body lift, skid plate, roof basket, lights, etc. Lots of fun anywhere, and comfortable on the highway. Only drawback was the manual and turbo don't do well at crawl speeds on boulder strewn trails. Lots of clutch slipping involved. That was the day I decided to order a 4Runner.

Some I cant find pics of.... 85 Toyota PU, lifted on 36's, went everywhere, long bed with a canopy and mattress permanently in the back. Many nights in that, first car my wife (then GF) and I bought together. Sold it because the car seat really didn't work in a single cab....

Isuzu Rodeo Sport (amigo), wifes first car, she loved it. Drove it to Texas and back with all our belongings. Dead reliable, but it would swap ends faster than any other car I have ever driven.

Ski Bum truck V1.0 Many many good times in that truck.

My little trailer I built. It was a fun fab project, and nice to have the extra space, but at the same time, sometimes a trailer is a PITA. Got sold to fund Ski Bum Truck V2.0

Our old B5 A4, was a great DD, just getting tired and needed a lot of maintenance stuff so it got traded in.

Well... maybe not so much a "rig" per se, but it was a fun ride This is my old Subaru Domingo (1988?) and my 2 nippers in 1995 Okinawa; Okuma Beach (northern island) IIRC. Full time 4WD; 3 cylinder engine - service accessed through the rear bumper; dual AC, front and rear; 5-speed MT; 7 passengers - center seat folded to a table and the front seats rotated 180 degrees; sliding passenger doors on both sides and a huge sliding roof. Most fun truck ever... like a roller skate... it managed tight Japanese back streets with ease. Wish I still had it, but it would never stand up to an American-grade accident. The kids are now 31 and 27.

Past adventure vehicles with a transfer case edition.

76 GMC: tore that sucker down to the frame, rebuilt everything, stuffed in a built 383 short block Chevy, 14 bolt rear and a Dana 60 for a hot rod hunting/hauling truck. Only got about 6 mpg down hill in neutral but the country girls here abouts dug it.

87 Jeep Comanche: kept stock, pretty much, and rolled 270,000 miles on that odometer. First travel and adventure hauler...

AR004102.JPG

98 Dodge club cab, bought to replace that Comanche when the wee babes came along. Not having the quad doors was a pain so...

01 Dodge Quad Cab Off-roadster: better doors, but a rust and repair magnet. The Dodge Rot killed my Mopar habit.

IMG_0073.JPG

97 Wrangler: little 4cyl weekend buggy. Fun little Jeep just for bopping around. This thing was super clean for a Jeep.

AR003702.JPG

04 Jeep Unlimited: the Grey Mouser. Loved this Jeep but we out grew it and the poor Jeep quality.

06 Toyota Tundra: Fafhrd. Never thought this truck would be in a past rig thread. Still miss this truck as it was the vehicular personification of me.

Let's see...
This was my 2003 Rubicon. My favorite vehicle so far. on 33's, sometime 35's, fully skidplated and 3.5" lift, with a warn HS9500, it would go anywhere, or I could drag it. Pic is at Tellico before it closed. That was my favorite location
Rubi tellico.jpg

I lost that rig to a vehicle fire... thankfully no one hurt. That led to a brief stint with a 1997 Land Rover Discovery, a 2001 Cherokee, both mildly built - no pictures and that led to my 2005 LJ Rubicon, which some of you saw at various events
jeep 2017.jpg

I had another brief stint with a 91 Suburban 2500. Great vehicle, just did not want to get rid of the LJ at that point.
Burb at wilson creek.jpg

Not pictured are my 1987 (?) wagoneer (small size), 1984 Scrambler (dammit), 1984 Ford Bronco II (surprisingly capable), 2000 Cherokee and a 1981 Honda XL250.
Out of all of them I enjoyed the 2003 TJ Rubicon the best. I think 03 is the best year as it kept some of the simplicity and lower use of plastic as the early TJ variant. I was also a fan of the 5 speed vs. the 6 speed. I also found it to be more capable than my similarly built 2005 LJ. I cannot say why, I was just able to drive it better off road.
