Husky Moto

Hi Guys,

Been away for a while with work and such, but I'm back- and ready for a new adventure!

I've added a new piece of kit to the mix, and I'm excited about the prospect of building her up to explore southern California and beyond with my old man. For now, she's all stock - a 2017 Husqvarna 701: :freedomrider

Build up will likely be slow - that down payment stung! But right of the bat you can expect an aluminum skid/bash plate.

Sooner than later I'm thinking:
Better headlight bulb
Water temp indicator
Gear indicator
Down the line a bit:
Bark buster type hand guards
Mosko Moto Reckless 40 rear bags
Wings exhaust
Intake of some kind
And, eventually, things like:
Scott or GPR steering stabilizer
Husky factory aux fuel tanks
Power Commander unit
more dirt-worthy tires
So far, I'm stoked on it just the way it is. Picked it up late Saturday, and so far I've got about 80 miles on it. Dad and I have an advanced dirt riding class scheduled for this weekend.
Looking forward to it! :moto

Great looking Husky! I ventured into looking up the TR650 Strada/Terra but read into the problems of finding dealers since Husky was sold off from BMW a few years back. From my readings, parts are hard to find and service centers were even harder to deal with. Hope that's not the case on your end considering you bought from a legitimate dealer, but otherwise I've heard many great experiences on Husqvarna's. REALLY looking forward to where this build goes!

Congratulation in your purchase!!
Don't forget to use one of this fork savers (or just a piece of 2x4) when you transport your bike. I damaged my suspension for not used it

I hope you enjoy it with a ton of miles!

Congrats on a nice bike! JoeHauler also a great investment. I shouldn't have included mine in my last van sale...

If you are riding So Cal let me know. I haven't ridden much over the last few years but would like to start again.

Thanks guys. I've put about 130 miles on it already. I love this thing!

I can't say I'm the fastest guy around, but I'm open to riding with anybody. I've been thinking about the hills around Palomar mountain, or ocotillo sooner than later.

Guri - Thanks for the heads up!

Danny

Quick update-

I’ve had the bike about 6 weeks now, and over the first thousand or so miles, it’s just gotten better and better. I love this thing!

Dad and I took our dirt class, which was great. Gary Laplante is extremely knowledgeable about all things moto, and he breaks down technical skills practice into simple, repeatable exercises. I’d recommend Gary’s class to anyone looking to learn to ride in the SoCal area. Gary literally wrote the book on offroad writing: https://www.amazon.com/How-Ride-Off-Road-Motorcycles-Dual-Sport/dp/0760342733/ Check out his website, too: https://motoventures.com/

That said, half way through the day Dad took a bad spill. He’s a tough guy, so he dusted himself off and got back on the bike after about ten minutes. Four or five days later, when the swelling wouldn't go down, he got an X-ray that showed he’d broken his left leg in two places. Enter cast & crutches for 8 weeks. As much as he’s always loved to ride, he’s decided it's probably time to hang up the jersey for good. :ambulance:tango

But he’s not done with everything… last weekend we got his crutches mounted on his quad, and he can sit at the lathe, so it's all good! :moto

Since then, I’ve done a few things to the bike. It’s had its first service, and got some shiny blue parts. Also mounted a Husky skid plate, put in a lithium battery, and put together a slick mount & charger for my iPhone. I'll have to take a picture of that later... with someone else's phone.

Dad and I also made a license plate mount. Not terribly exciting, but I didn’t want to drill holes in the middle of my brand new license plate. Doing this gave it a pretty clean look, and didn't require any cutting or drilling of the bike. I haven’t decided yet if I want to cut that lower plastic.

Ignore the dirt oven... I bake all my small parts to really harden the Rustoleum.

Overall, I’m just loving this thing. I ride it to work almost every day, and generally take the longest way home. I can’t wait to get it off the pavement more and do some overnight trips. Got some cool things planned, so stay tuned!

Congrats on your purchase, Sorry about Dad's leg. I'm waffling on the purchase of a Dual-sport, need a very lite one so I can hang it on the front of my FJ Cruiser. How much does your's weigh with gas, ready to go?

Hey Woodie- The 701 weighs just under 350 pounds, gassed up and ready to go. Maybe not light by dirt bike standards, but very light compared to some of its 650cc dual-sport brethren. I transport mine on a JoeHauler on the back of my other adventure rig. Hope that helps!
