On 13 October 2013, we will mark the 238th anniversary of the birth of the United States Navy :independence

This year marks the bicentennial of one of the formative events in the development of our Navy: The Battle of Lake Erie.

U.S.
Naval forces, under the command of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, won a hard-fought engagement against a squadron of the Royal Navy. Perrys report of the battle, which was a strategically important victory in the War of 1812, commenced with the famous words, "We have met the enemy and they are ours."

Here's to another 200 years - Hooyah Navy!

This year marks the bicentennial of one of the formative events in the development of our Navy: The Battle of Lake Erie.

The ships for that foray were built just north of our clanhold along the Presque Isle peninsula. I've had the pleasure of hitching a ride on Commodore Perry's relief flagship, The Brig Niagara, which still floats today after three restorations and still cuts the waters to this day.

Happy Birthday Navy!

I have three brothers, (one a lifer), an uncle and two cousins that were in the US Navy. They've sailed aboard frigates, battleship, fossil fueled aircraft carrier and a nuclear carrier. Hats off to the US Nav and long may it sail the seven seas.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirates life for me!:pirateship

Here I am 5 years ago on vacation in DC and by god, it was Navy Day! All sorts of cool stuff to see. These lovely Corpsmen were attempting to talk me into joining up. I put all that gear on and thought hell-to-tha-no would I want to carry that crap around all the time. So I joined the Army instead. I always was a slow learner!:march

Happy Birthday Navy! :flag:destroyer:flag
