Review: Bending Branches Glide Glass Plus Touring Kayak Paddle

As a lifelong outdoorsman and lover of amphibious pursuits like fishing and paddling, my search for the "perfect" kayak paddle led me down several deep rabbit holes online. Truth be told, there is no "perfect" paddle for all conditions and all boats no matter what any expert or company may claim. Narrowing my search a bit more towards family recreational paddling and fishing in a tandem kayak, I focused on weight, comfort and utility as my set of paddles would most likely be used by different friends and family of various sizes and ability levels. My search led me to Bending Branches and the Glide Glass Plus.

I opted for a set of these in the 225 cm to 240 cm size. They are nice and lightweight and super adjustable, here's the specs:

The Glide Glass Plus Touring kayak paddle offers less weight and more comfort than aluminum. Paddling will seem effortless using a fiberglass shaft with this touring blade shape. Featuring our telescoping ferrule - adjustable from 215-230cm and 225-240cm lengths.
Product Details:
•Blade Size: 6.1" x 19.1" (93 sq in)
•Blade Color: Yellow
•Shaft Color: Black
•Shaft Type: Glass
•Lengths Available:
215 - 230 cm
225 - 240 cm
•Weight: 36 oz

What I noticed right away when I opened the box was that these are HIGH QUALITY - I pored over the fit and finish on these paddles and found them to be immaculate and easy to break down into two pieces or to assemble and adjust.

Crafted by fellow enthusiasts in Osceola, Wisconsin the made in USA quality stands out compared to big box store paddles from that "other" country. The high visibility yellow helps ensure that you are noticed on the water and makes this paddle harder to lose.

Once assembled, there is zero play or wiggle between the two sections. The glass construction ensures good flex and comfortable hands as aluminum shafts sap warmth from your hands on a cold day, and they float if they happen to get away from you out on the water. Adjusting this paddle for ideal length or blade angle is as easy as righty-tighty lefty-loosy...

The bottom line? The Bending Branches Glide Glass Plus touring kayak paddle will make your float more comfortable and is a really nice family paddle. Perfect for all skill levels, it's super lightweight and comfortable to use. Priced at about $129, it's not the cheapest option but it is guaranteed to leave you without regret as it puts a smile on your face for many years worth of amphibious adventuring.
