Interesting that it's foreign makers of diesel and not US diesel so far...

Makes you wonder about all those diesels in the EU.
 
My uneducated guess is that the requirements here are tougher to meet for existing engines, so they workaround. That's why you will never see a Toyota diesel in the states.
