Thurmont Maryland is a town of a bit over 6000 located about 10 miles south of the Mason-Dixon Line (and PA/MD border) in northern Frederick County and about 35 miles from our house. It is home to Cunningham Falls State Park, Catoctin Mountain Park (Camp David is on Catoctin Mountain); a small privately owned zoo; and the dealership where we bought my truck. Relevant to this story, its also the place where we get my truck repaired under warranty. When leaving the truck for repairs, we noted some unusual sights that we took the time to explore (and not interact with anyone) when we went to retrieve the truck. Join us on our photo safari.
First place we stopped, we saw a goat.
Actually, there was more than one.
We picked this stop because of the alpaca. He was photogenic and I wanted to get a side shot but he kept walking towards me whenever I moved. (Telephoto lenses hide that I'm at 100' away.)
As long as we were there, the guard turkey wanted to make sure we didn't overstep
We think the animal in the center of the picture is a zonkey (half zebra, half donkey). If anyone knows better, feel free to correct us.
This is the zebra that started the whole safari notion. The fenced pastures included this one, the animal we call a zonkey, and multiple horses.
Same zebra, different angle
This frog is NOT a living animal. It was a soft inflatable.
Different angle for perspective. Hope you enjoyed our safari.
