El Dorado Casserole in a Dutch Oven

Here is the recipe for the El Dorado Casserole that won the DO contest at DRV 2014. I got the recipe from http://camp-cook.com, and modified it slightly. This is exactly as I made it.

El Dorado Casserole
 
1 lb. ground beef, browned and drained
1 lb. ground Italian sausage, browned and drained
1 medium onion diced, browned with the meat
2 (8 ounce) cans of tomato sauce
1 package medium taco seasoning
1 (24 ounce) container cottage cheese
1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
2 (4 ounce) cans chopped green chilies (optional)
1 (11 ½ ounce) bag Doritos
2 cups shredded Pepper Jack cheese
2 cups shredded Sharp Cheddar cheese

Mix beef, diced onion, tomato sauce, and taco seasoning. Mix cottage cheese, sour cream and chilies. Crush Doritos. Layer one time in a 12" DO in the following order. ¾ bag of Doritos, meat mixture, cottage cheese mixture, Pepper Jack cheese, Cheddar cheese, and remaining Doritos.

Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. (14 coals top, 10 coals bottom, always under outside edge)
Serves 8-10

 
Awesome. I am looking at enhancing my camp setup with a camp kitchen and a Dutch oven. You can bet this will be the first recipe I try!
