Death threats

Okay, I have a two part issue. We were recently informed of some letters detailing how a kid was going to kill my son (this kid used to live in wyoming, now lives in Kansas, it's all about a girl). First question, what do I do about that? Police didn't care. I do not believe the kid has the abilities to carry out the threat, but stranger things have happened. Plus there is the fact that letters indicates some sort of plotting and collaboration. We have talked to the other parents directly who basically told us that they are sorry, they reprimanded the kid but that we 'needed to calm down' (side note: never say that to someone whose child has been threatened)

That is the easy one

We thought we had it sorted out with the parents and we were willing to be pissed, but let it go. Then we found out that the parents of the child who sent the letter had involved a local attorney. This is where it gets sticky. This particular attorney represented us during our adoption proceeding, and knows everything about us from a legal standpoint. This particular attorney also happens to be a member of our clergy as well as some of the other families involved. He claims that he is not representing anybody, and that he is 'just trying to help'. I see this as a clear conflict of interest and possible misconduct, but I'm currently pretty pissed. Thoughts?

I also forgot to add, that while meddling around in what is clearly a legal matter and representing himself as an attorney, he also took it to other members of the clergy (I'm Mormon, so he talked to the bishop, which is not the same as a catholic bishop)

Well I guess you could hire another attorney, but what do they do? I m not sure any laws have been broken.

Remember this is free advice and worth what you paid for it.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe if he discloses any of the information he got while representing you he can be disbarred

Yes, but he is not currently representing us, he was more representing the other family in this case, though he has represented us in the past. So you see how screwed up all this is

Yes, but he is not currently representing us

Doesn't matter, he cannot release information he learned while representing you. I believe it's a violation of attorney client privilege; you may want to contact another lawyer and or your state bar association.

C. All of the above.

Getting sidetracked with the lawyer... What about this threat? how old are these kids?

I have no value to add here, but admire your patience and objectivity. Threats to the safety of my kid would make me quickly come unglued.

Agreed. Most reasonable folks would draw the line there.

I would not take the threat lightly. The person making the threat is quite capable of carrying out the threat and usually.

12 and 13, and there was sufficient amount of coming unglued, I just left some of those parts out to maintain some objectivity
