BIG CHANGES COMING

American Adventurist has some BIG changes coming here soon. What are these changes and how does that affect our members? Here are the details you need to know:

vBulletin has been good and many forums use it but it has it's drawbacks and is no longer being developed i.e. security patches etc.

Xenforo was developed by the core group that made vB so awesome, and includes all of the best features that might have made it to vB 5. We are adopting the only logical choice as it's the recognized pinnacle of forum software to date. As a user, mobile device experience will be improved and it should be an easy transition as many of the things we're comfortable with here exist there - it's just a forum - but it has a lot of other features that should make it more fun.

In addition to being more secure and having a MUCH better search function and being easier to post pictures on, here are some features that I think you all may enjoy:

Social Engagement
Keep your users coming back by letting them earn trophies for reaching milestones. An intuitive "like" system makes users feel appreciated for their contributions, while integration with Facebook allows easy registration and sharing.

Recent Activity Stream
Allow people to easily see all the recent happenings on your forum, beyond just the messages posted. Members can follow each other to get their own personalized news feed showing the content they want to see.

Alerts
Make it easy for users to stay up to date with updates that are applicable to them. They'll receive alerts when someone quotes their post or responds to a status update, when they receive a new trophy, and more.

We will also be adding an expanded functionality for you via their great Media Gallery add on:

The Media Gallery is an official XenForo add-on that allows you and your users to create galleries of images and videos, integrated into your forum. Media may be added to admin-created categories or users may create their own albums with full privacy controls.

Media can be interacted with through likes, ratings and comments. Users can even tag other users in their images. Media can easily be shared or embedded into posts with a custom BB code. Further customization of media can be done through a tagging system and custom fields.

We'll also be evolving our front page yet again to version 3.0

We hope that you will all enjoy the latest and greatest American Adventurist Community Forum!

I know you have a lot of moving parts to orchestrate, not just with American Adventurist, but in your "day job" too. Do you have a rough time line you expect some of these milestones to occur?

Most importantly, how can we help you realize some of the tasks to occur?

Given the development team, will there be content migration or will we be starting from scratch content wise?

No starting over from scratch, content here will migrate to the new database :thumbsup

change scares me...I think I'm going to run away and go camping for now

It scares me too but the cost benefit analysis is clear. Maybe when you're ready you'll learn to appreciate being able to Like posts and better/easier photo sharing capabilities...

... we're pretty excited about the potential Xenforo brings!

:bandwagon
