Best Family vehcile for family of 7

So our life just totally changed a bit. We were blessed a 2 foster kids and are now a family of 7 ( 5 kids) and no longer fit in my truck. as of right now we only all fit in my wifes 2wd 2003 expedition.

So now im not so sure what we are doing. we will be a family of 7 for at least 6 months to a year before we know if we will be able to adopt them. Im really confused on what will even work. i could keep my truck but then we would always have to take 2 cars to wherever we camp. or i can sell it and get something else we all fit in.

here are my choices:
Excursion:: (diesel prefered)
E series van (fairly inexpensive to start but converting it to 4wd will be costly)

Open to whatever anyone else thinks. I also thought about buying an old school bus and converting that as well.

If it was me, I'd go van. needs bigger tires, and I'd ditch the rims... But check this:

Hit craigslist, and search either 4x4 van or 4x4 e350, and you'll get some hits.

HAHA. i have been on craiglist for about an hour now looking at vans. that black one is nowhere near my price range (30k) but the second one isnt too bad.

Heck, I cruise craigslist at least once a week looking for vans. Ebay is also a good place to look, if you're willing to travel for the right rig. What kinda budget are you looking at?

A 4x4 is probably your best option, gives the kids a lot more room. Even though I'm partial to an Excursion.

Even with only 3 kids and camping gear, it can get crowded on longer adventures. 5 would be tough.

well first i would need to sell my truck. after that i would like to stick to 15k and under.

@az_ray_x i owned a 2000 7.3L 4wd excursion before and sold it like an idiot wanting a new truck. i have been wanting another one for a long time but man the prices on them have skyrocketed. as far as room is concerned we would be pretty tight in it but even with the 3rd row it had plenty of space for some gear. the rest would have to go on a roof rack.

i guess the options are endless. im hoping to have the new setup by Desert Rendezvous

As we discussed on FB, I'm a fan of that one that's in vegas (The picture in your last reply). The 4x4 is already done, all you need to do is build out the interior.

i totally agree. i sent the guy an email asking for more details on how it was converted to 4wd and who did it. i have done 1 day round trips to vegas to pick up vehicles before so if all looks good there is a good possibility ill be going to go check it out. i also noticed that it had CA plates. if its still registered here it would make it that much easier to register....

An older suburban should be on your list. Thirsty gassier, but cheap to get into, easy to work on, and lots of room.

That's amazing.

He keeps saying "really rare 6 door jeep" Did they make really rare 6 door jeeps? Like did Jeep make really rare 6 door jeeps? Or did someone make a really rare 6 door jeep

:dunno

HAHAHA.. I know right Steve? I'm afraid it's gonna be hacked together, and the fact that the guy wants 40 grand for a 10 year old vehicle, that was probably not stretched PROPERLY, is a bit ludicrous.

I used to watch a coffee show called Dangerous Grounds and in one episode he drove around in some sort of jeep thing that seemed factory.... got me wondering what one can order for companies and such... this is the only pic of it I can find.

If you won't be driving all of them around regularly but you just need the ability to, then you might consider something like the Acura MDX.

Congrats on the new additions to your family! That is wonderful news!

We have my wife's expedition that fits us all. This new rig will just be our camping/ adventure rig. Heavily leaning towards a bus build.

So I have been emailing back and forth with this guy. He hasn't registered it in Vegas so the registration in CA is now late. He has no paperwork on the title as well. Details on the 4wd conversion is scarce. Plus it's not complete. It basically has the lift and axles. the rear axle is a gmc and the front is a Ford so he has adapters in the rear. He also doesn't know the gear ratio in either axle.

Needless to say I possibly would have to tear it all out and the benefit of buying it because it's almost "complete" would go out the window.

I think I'm going to look for one out here and do the conversion myself.

Yeah sounds like that bus build needs too much attention to make it worth it. You'd be better off buying one and doing the conversion yourself, at least that way, you would know it would be done right.
