Desert caching

Ammo can hide

This is an excellent pursuit that teaches GPS principles, breaks up those long road trips (leg stretch and a cache), and for kids is an outdoor mecca of electronic fun.

We are GeoYota and Raiderchik...

We are the same as our screen name but haven't been active in years.

I really enjoyed it for a while but fell off for a while. I have picked it up agin, its magical with my kids. Last time they dressed as pirates and we found buried treasure. Good times.

The kids and I always find a way to look for some caches when we camp. We haven't taken a day to just cache in quite a while.

Register at the geocaching website, download an app for your phone, and you're GTG.

We used to do a lot of caching. Back in the olden days, you had to manually create waypoint files in your GPS or transmit them via programming cable, then either print out the cache info pages or figure out how to transfer the info to your (non-Internet connected) PDA.

Much easier these days.

This is something that I keep thinking about but have never actually done. One of these days that will change

We used to geocache many years ago, before we had smartphones, using a handheld GPS and clues. It was a lot of fun with the kids. But then 9-11 happened, and it got very politically incorrect to be hiding camouflaged boxes under bridges, around parks, etc. We had the cops called on us on two occasions, and nationally there were a lot of bomb squad calls on caches. That took all the fun out of it, and we never got started again.

I've never heard of this. I shared it with my 9 year old Danny and he's really excited about it. Thanks for posting this, sounds and looks like a blast.
