AAV Ham Frequency

Can one of you radio head types come up with a radio frequency and a back up frequency that would be suitable for AAV events.

Main freq to hail the camp area and the back up for groups travelling to the event, or something to that effect.

Might as well pick a CB frequency while you're at it.

FWIW, I think these are the standard one Dave lists with each Rendezvous event:

Ham: 146.520 simplex calling
147.585 simplex for chit chat

CB: Ch 38 for calling

FRS for short range Ch 3 tone 8

Those are good enough for me, going to run with them for the group travelling overland to DRV.

Sounds like a good idea. One thing I might add is using a local mountain top repeater for long range comm if simplex is not working for the distance for trail EMS. Like say Chuckwalla mt for the DVR. And Mt Laguna for the Anza and Imperial counties.

^^^^That makes this thread for the benefit of people that don't read previously posted information!

i was thinking that too. I don't have any experience with which repeaters are easily hit from DR camp etc. though.

My original thinking is to use these freqs for any AAV event or even for runs that may not be "official AAV events" but runs that are organized on this forum. That way I can program them into my radio and be done with it, forever, rather than changing them for individual events/runs. I get the idea that you guys are thinking along the same lines that I am, just wanted to clarify that a bit.

I do understand a basic ham ch for the AV and I think it is a good idea. I was just thinking along the lines if S hits the fan and more help is needed out of the basic range on simplex. Just a thought on longer range comm plan in an emergency. We are all on the same thought safety and a good time.

Up in LA, during the station fire, the repeater room up on Mt Wilson burned (someone thought a wood door on an otherwise fireproof building was a good idea), and the local disaster repeaters were cooked.

We lost several repeaters after an earthquake up there.

Repeaters aren't reliable for local SHTF situations. In otherwise non-disruptive situations, all the local repeaters should be programmed in the radios beforehand.

I admit that mine are not programmed for San Diego.

For those that are interested, the Chuckwalla repeater should be accessible for most, if not all, of the area that we will be travelling in. It is
145.380, negative offset, PL 162.2
Located near Desert Center.

Monument Peak repeater (on Mt.Laguna) should also be accessible as well:
147.240, positive offset, PL 103.5

As an aside, I have not seen any mention of Sat. trail runs. Anyone got any? Post a new thread.

My brother and I plan a trip to Pattons chair or throne. Real close and nothing hard to drive.

Another thing to keep in mind is that 4x4Ham.com site has VHF & UHF standard frequencies, along with repeater information for where most of them are located (AZ I think). It would be great if we could come up with a 'standard' band plan we could all use when traveling, the supplement that with 'local' ham bands for states/metro areas.
