A rare spotting

While out and about on Sunday in the San Diego area I spotted a Tacoma that I wasn't sure I'd ever see in person. At first glance I thought it was like many of the Tacoma’s that I see in the area that feature the standard "look cool" items, but as I got closer I remember reading an article about this particular dress-up. I had my wife scramble to take a picture for me; however, this is the best we could do with a cell phone in bad weather.

What you can't see in the picture, are the majority of accouterments that make up the Stage 3 XPLORE Toyota Tacoma (minus the RTT).

I think many of us here agree that there are very few vehicles on the market right now that meet our wants/needs directly off the showroom floor. Xplore Vehicles is attempting to reach out to our market, but have they hit that mark?

I can't help but assume much more of the $10k price tag for this package goes toward superfluous dress-up items I wouldn't be willing to pay for. The matte clear-coat paint treatment does look cool, but makes the exterior of the truck more difficult to clean and allows scratches to stand out like a highlighter. The custom embroidered seats work just like stock, but add expense. Multiple badges are affixed to the interior and exterior of the truck to help brand it further. It comes off as a status symbol that successfully stands out to everyone but the people in their niche market.

I believe these trucks will continue to stay rare... or maybe I just hope they will.

I have to admit it is a neat looking truck, but I would never pay for a "package" truck like that. A little to extravagant for my taste.

I like it, not everyone wants to "build" a rig and if this helps families get out there I say why not

I agree, if I ever get to a point in my life where I can buy a new rig, and have it kitted out off the showroom floor, I might do it. I would probably be more likely to drop it off at a shop of my choosing, but that is really no different, and as far as being worth it, that depends on what you want, some people like form over function....(not me)

I agree with your point... not everyone enjoys or has the time to spend wrenching on their truck, that is understood. The marketing of this is where it all goes wrong IMO. What's that trucks price out the door? $32-35K? Add $10K onto that. So, as much a $45K in a truck that you'd be afraid of rock chips? That isn't going to be popular in our market.

The base package is basically the poser pack. Very little substance. The upper level sounds pretty decent though for someone who doesn't want to do their own mods.
Travis..

I like it! I'm thankful that it still actually looks like a Toyota 4x4 truck! Although I have actually always preferred to buy a basic vehicle....and improve it myself. The interior looks Awesome! I love the seats! I could drive that! Now that's fun to see!....:clang:beer

It's nice looking. The profit is in the package. I might buy a few items a la carte but won't pay for pretty, not on a truck.
I try to avoid packaging. "Want this, well you'll have to buy that too."
Don't get bundled.

I really don't see the point. Nothing of importance that isn't a simple internet click away for anyone. The poseur element is just too high for my taste.
