For the last 15 years I have been going to Comic-Con, but things have gotten to commercial, and expensive so my wife (Blkwgn_wyfee) and I decided this year we would do a road trip instead. We had no idea when, or where we would go, so when we were invited on this trip it was an easy decision to go along. My work was crazy right up until the time we left so we had no plans other than to enjoy the trip, and go wherever the group went. This was going to be the longest camping trip either of us had done, the longest vacation either of us had taken, and the first big trip with the new to us trailer, all of this added up to a lot of excitement and we were not disappointed . Work had been a mad house since we got back, so I am just getting around to the trip report. This is going to be the first installment, and hopefully some of the others will fill in the details I have forgotten and share their photos as well.

So, here are the basics

4 rigs

Myself and Paige in the Power Wagon with home built teardrop trailer

Dwight and Maile (dflesher65) in the JKU with the AT Chaser

Steve and Shellie (mtngote) in the 4Runner

and Travis and Sarah (travis.diller) in the Tacoma

Using Roadtrippers.com, I made a quick (and rough) map of where we went, you can see it here We covered 2,435 miles over over 11 days From July 4 to 14. Most of the group was coming up the 5 from San Diego so Frasier Park seemed like a good spot to meet up. I thought I had a photo of everyone at our first meet up, but can't seem to find it, so you get a photo of my coffee that got me to Frasier Park

Our target for Day 1 was the Econo Lodge in the beautiful town of Westly Ca. The Econo lodge was not the way I wanted to start this journey, but when we arrived in town around 4pm and it was 105 degrees I was very happy to know that there was an air conditioned room waiting for me. It actually turned out to be a great hotel, inexpensive, freshly remodeled, comfy bed, and empty. When we arrived there were 5 vehicles in the parking lot (including our 4 rigs) and only one other showed up overnight. We had the place to ourselves.

We were so ready to hang out that we did not even make it to our rooms, the first couple of hours were spent enjoying the shade of the building while sitting in the parking lot then moved to the pool

Day two brought us continental breakfast and another travel day. The first part of the drive was nothing spectacular, I did find the farms interesting though monotonous, but it did soon change to views like this one from a truck stop, I think this was in Weed Ca

It also brought us to our first night of camping, and the "Start" of our trip in Klamath Falls Oregon

From here it was a short and beautiful drive to Crater Lake National Park. We spent 2 nights at the Mazama Campground inside the park so we could explore the area.

Here are a few photos from the various hikes around the lake

Well, I think this is as far as I am going to get for now, I seem to have been distracted binge watching the Long Way Round on Netflix. It is pretty good, really making me want to get out on another trip. I will wrap up this installment with a few more photos

Looks awesome so far!

ETA, unless i'm slow, I can seem to see your route on the map link you provided.

Nice! I can't remember the last time we had a big block of time to take an extended trip, I'm a bit jealous.

^^^^ No kidding, you'd think a MODERATOR would have better manners!:dunno

Meanwhile, seems like there are three other members here that have FAILED to contribute their side of the story! (just saying is all)

I saw crater lake for the first time last summer. It really is that blue. Nice pics

Wasn't a mod. You missed the post because he deleted it out of courtesy.

This looks like it was an EPIC journey for all involved - count me as one of the jealous! :wow

Thanks for sharing with us here!

Good stuff so far and like many others I'm sure, I'm looking forward to more! I enjoyed the Instagram shots during the trip too.

Unfortunately, you have good excuses with work and binging on Long Way Round. And like me, I'm sure you'll be streaming Long Way Down after that...

I am sure many of you who are in SoCal have heard about the massive rain storm, and the mudslide in Mount Baldy. I live at the base of the mountain and consider it my second home, so I have been digging mud in my free time which means I probably will not get to work on the trip report for a few days. I am sure you all understand.

If you are not aware of the situation, the was approx 5" of rain ove4 a 2 hour span, with almost 4" in the first hour. The mudslide only affected a small part of the town, but what was hit was hit hard. http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2014...uninhabitable-in-mt-baldy-after-deadly-storm/

Good luck with the clean up effort. That's a stupid amount of rain for the whole state of CA in a day at this time of year, much less in one area in 2 hours!
