Yeah..what he said.

While something like the Air and Space Museum is great, there's nothing better than seeing old planes out and about beating the air into submission.

There are only 7 flying P-38's, and 5 of them are here... There will be video!

The show was great. I took a ton of pics, dont know if any are worth sharing, but i took them. I will try and go through them tomorrow but it will probably be Monday before I can.

Here is a photo from the Planes of Fame Facebook page

Mitch, you are a fine American my friend. Meritorious pat-on-the-back for the pictures and video - you made my day!

That was great, thanks for posting. I really like the old war birds, built many models of those planes as a child.

I did too! It's quite an opportunity to see them actually fly and meet the folks that flew them in combat, I think Chino and one other place in Arizona offer the chance to do so on this scale.

I would love to kickstart the face of the pilot that fired up that Jearjet during the P-38 pass in your video.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing... The theme for this airshow was "Lightning Strikes Chino"... And right in the middle of it, a friggin modified passenger jet winds up when we should only be hearing the awesome twin Allisons, 10 of them to be exact!

I get that he was the next act up, and that he needs to be ready in time, but there's an entire section of the airport on the other side of the runways (view in front of us) that is normally used for prep when the military jets show up. Sadly, there were NO active duty military jets this year because someone is still throwing his tantrum, which caused the canceling of two Heritage flights, and a few solo demonstrations. There was supposed to be a Navy Heritage Flight, and an Air Force Heritage flight, an F-15 demonstration, and an F/A-18 demonstration.

Awesome video Mitch..I'm diggin' it! I like the Catalinas. Is that a Hellcat in your one photo?

With the great sound and rumble those planes make its no wonder those fellers flyin' them came back home and started building loud and rumblely hot rods. I always find that an old plane show and a nostalgic hot rod drag race have a similar vibe.

To be honest, DOD participation is not missed (by me) at all and only exists as a recruiting tool. I used to hate all the pomp and circumstance and the dog and pony shows as drains on my budget and time to get "stuff" done. Between all the flippin' holidays and mandatory celebrations you only had a few months out of the year to get anything flippin' accomplished.

To me, the presence of these old warriors is the only thing needed. All the current inventory provides is a reference to scale and a distraction.

Did you notice the Grumman "Duck" in front of you? I believe that to be the only one left flying...
